Newbie With Newbie Question

Hi All,

I know that this question has been asked and answered before, but I can't find anything conclusive with my search efforts. I think this will be pretty simple for you Omega folks.

I'm looking at a Constellation watch that: Has the Omega logo PAINTED ON, and has a second hand that goes "tick, tick, tick".

My reading tells me that these two things make it a counterfeit. Is that right?

Thanks in advance...

Alphonso

Without knowing the age of the watch, it's not possible to answer your question. I'd suggest posting photos.

Thanks. Here is a picture. I apologize for the quality. My phone is giving up.

I was under the impression that a painted on logo was a dead give away as counterfeit.

Is that not so, or is it more complicated than that...?

Tick is fine, that's a quartz watch not an automatic. Not sure about the painted logo though. Looks to me like an 80's connie.

Thanks. I expect someone will know about the painted logo here in a little bit...

Doing a quick search on Chrono24, it looks like there are some quartz Constellations with painted Omega logos.

I would go to Chrono24 and search for Omega Constellation. Then filter for movement: quartz and filter for the size of the watch you showed a photo of. Then look through what comes up and see how many (if any) have a painted logo. Chrono24 is not perfect, but I don't think they are flooded with fake watches.

Example:

Again, thanks for the help. I still can't tell if it's real. I don't have a relationship with a credible watch guy, so I have to figure this one out on my own...

If you aren't certain, my advice is to let it go.

Those models are not of much interest to collectors, so you may not get many responses on this forum. Especially with just that one photo. If you got a photo of the quartz movement, that would be definitive.

Thanks for all the help. I am part way through a trade for my much newer Constellation automatic with the clear back. I'm going to bail on the trade and start looking again for this older model (which I prefer).

Here’s my 1987 quartz Connie. Collectors may not like these but one exactly like this was my first real watch purchase.

For what it’s worth (and I wouldn’t bet my life on it) this model was never hugely popular and if fakes exist they would be of very bad quality, easy to spot with the naked eye. The watch on your pic looks genuine at first glance.

I'm getting a lot of hits like this on an image search for eighties Constellations. Looks pretty close to your pic to me.

Same handset, same hour markers, same railroad track, same date window, same logo,... Even fakes of hugely popular watches from those days looked like they had been eaten, digested, and s**t our by a zombie 😀 They would never copy a Constellation to almost perfection.

The gold link sleeves on mine added 800 to the price in 1987. What I paid for this one in 2023 is less than it's worth in 18kt gold. I think Alphonso' example is real also.

Can you get better pics?
