I came a cross this stunning vintage Seamaster De Ville and I instantly fell in love!

But I’m a complete newbie when it comes to vintage timepieces and I was hoping I could seek the help of you fine folks if this watch is worth pursuing or if I should step away.

This is a Seamaster De Ville - 1965 ref: Ref. 166.020 cal: 562

I´ve contacted the seller and he says:
    - he had it serviced last December
    - Theres no original documentation nor box
    - Everything is original on the watch except the strap

Is theres any other questions I should ask the seller?

    Thanks! :)

Does the seller has any proof that a service was done? Maybe ask him that. For the rest it looks good.

    Hi Sorhaug,
very good first post here on Omegaforums, welcome!
As pointed out by @KingCrouchy the watch looks very good, excellent lugs for a golden watch.
Please tell us the asking price!

A lot of money for a Deville, you are aware of that?

That's alot! I sold my Ref.166020 for 700$ or under mostly. He needs to prove that a service was done, or it's really a silly price.

I agree that $1200 seems steep, if they can provide an actual service receipt you could do a lot worse, this is very crisp for a 14K/SS SMD.

    thanks for the replies guys!
yes, i realise its more on the expensive side of things. maybe thats the penalty of living in Norway:unsure:
But ill contact the seller again and ask if he has the service receipt and if theres any wiggle room on the price

That's the right approach. It's in great condition. Even if you pay the asking price, and you like and enjoy the watch, it will be worth it in the long term.
I had many Ref.166020 and they are great to wear.

    Yeah exactly!
It might be a litt expensive, but if i get a lot of wear and enjoyment out of it, it might be worth it in the long run.
But ill tell him that i wont be paying the asking price however, and hopefully we´ll come to an agrement

Sound good. Most people will barter a bit. At least you won’t have to do anything with it. If it was just serviced it should be ok with moisture inside

Instead of asking about wiggle room, why don't you make him an offer. Asking if he has wiggle room is basically telling him you don't know how to negotiate.

Those are a lot more rare. Whether that figures into his price is hard to say.

Maybe you would like to know a bit more about the history of the watch, how many hands it's been through? Sometimes I enjoy knowing these little things behind the watches I have; for its story. Obviously not something that everyone will have an interest in though! Beautiful piece though! The SMDV is probably one of my favourite lines.

Here's one of mine (rose/pink gold?) with original everything (I swapped out the strap to wear) including gilt dial, though not automatic. Belonged to an old fella from the UK, inherited by his son who had kept it hidden since! IMG_1562.JPG

Hope you find the one you're looking for!
