I wanted a birthday watch so bought this as came with archive from omega museum matching the serial number to march 1969. I am happy with watch as it looks original but by no means an expert. What do people think? I wore it the other day when temperatures dropped and noticed inside of lens had steamed up. I live in England and have been quoted £220 for a full service but have been told that does not guarantee that the condensation on inside of lens will stop. Is this correct and does anyone know a good place for service in U.K.?
£220 sounds about right Who did you get the quote from? There aren't many (any?) watchmakers that will guarantee a 47 year old watch for moisture resistance even with new seals The crystal could leak or the case be damaged I use the watch guy Others use Stefan and STS Hope that helps
Thanks for that. It's a guy in Birmingham who specialises in omegas. He has just called me and said he will service it and change o rings whatever they are and said I will have to be very unlucky if its the lens. I said do it and when I get it back I will put in a cold area and see if it steams up. If it does it will need a new lens
Stefan serviced my chronostop (exact same model) last year. Had a new crystal and seals. Not had any problems with it since. I wear it quite a lot.
Where is he based as the quote has gone to £240 and that's for service, the seals but not the crystal.
He is based in central London. He is a member here. I think my total was 285 pounds for everything. The important thing is to find a watchmaker you feel you can trust and who will do a good job, that is very important. My watch came back working perfectly.
There's a UK based watchmaker people seem to like a lot on the British forum TZ-UK, his name is Brendan Hoey, Webwatchmaker. Not sure what his price would be, but chronographs are never cheap to service.
