    Hello all,

I know that Seamaster was official issue to UK military SF units (and Bond, James Bond ;-) ), but wanted to ask.

In general, will wearing the watch whilst shooting either a short or long weapon somehow damage the movement?

    Thanks,

    Mike

Unless you shoot at the watch, you should be fine...

Thanks. I wouldn't manage to hit it anyway :).

I was just curious, but that is a very good indication of the robustness of a mechanical movement.

Well if you are one of these guys, wearing a quartz might be a good idea...;)

But generally shooting is fine for mechanical watches.

That might pulverize the quartz. Never had any issues shooting wearing speedies or seamasters. And I mean thousands of rounds a year.

A lifetime of extensive shooting, using center fire rifles using cartridges from light to those suitable for heavy game (not foolishly large like Archer's clip above) along with the use of center fire handgun cartridges running the gamut of power, has not mattered one whit to any mechanical watch of mine. Neither a gun's recoil nor its report stresses the watch as much as it can the shooter. Through the February to October season that registered high-power rifle matches are offered where I've always competed, I shot .30-06 or .308 rifles on a monthly basis wearing the same old Glycine military-style watch over most of a 20-year period.

Realistically? So the owner can feel confident that he's got bragging rights to owning the biggest and baddest rifle caliber around. It's the heavy rifle caliber equivalent to owning one of those garish blingy Rolexes that were photo-featured here recently.

I would genuinely love to fire it while sitting on a chair with wheels on it and nothing behind me, that's just be great fun

It is amazing how cultures differ. In the UK only shotguns and hunting riffles are allowed. Even then the process to gain the license is very, very, very long. The result is only farmers and hunters own guns and they are few and far between. I have no idea what a cal 700 is but if you had that thing in the UK, the police would lock you up for a very long time. However, had I been in the states I would probably own several guns and use them for sport at a gun club.

I agree that the cultures are different, but I'm in the UK and can buy and use just about anything you care to name as long as I am a member of a registered club. I'm not a farmer or a hunter, just a shooting enthusiast.

Can you keep the equipment at home or does it have to be locked away at the club?

Crocs live under water..... you don't use guns under water....... Crocs are easy to deal with if you use the right tools.....

Crocodiles live and regulate their temperature between land and water and hide in water for ambush attacks. Mornings you will see them all
sun-baking on the banks. Crocs can not open their mouth to eat underwater they swim or sit open mouthed and bite. They have all the power on closing their jaws and next to nothing opening. You could keep their mouth shut with a few wraps of electricians tape.

This one would be around the 4.5 to 5 meter mark

Well, we used a 305 mm beapee gun to some some overly eager neighbours back in the day... ::stirthepot::

(Seriously, old Obuhof 305mm shot twice to celebrate 200 years of Helsinki being the capitola of Finland)

This one I have actually fired and trained with, sgt in the Finnish Coastal Artillery... Now let then come, buggers ::rant:
