What are your guys opinions on the newer Zodiacs? Just curious.

Saw these in a store and are new, I can get like 70% off or so but I'm thinking I'd rather save the money for something better(vintage).

Hi @Jwit
How are you Sir ?

The only iconic Zodiac you'll ever need is the Legendary SeaWolf with Fossil's STP Swiss made movement f9179d2542fce178df3c80f5439b7f49.jpg
i'm afraid all the Z models on display above are only title pretenders not worthy of a title bout & fail to recapture that old world romance & vintage charm of the Seawolf 2d8b544d512a4128197c0fddd1e604a7.jpg I would pay full price for her rather than be offered a 70% discount on the others

It depends on what you want out of them. If you're expecting high quality watches/movements perhaps some care and research is advised before purchase.

Unfortunately they heavily outsource to Asia (50% Swiss Made rule applies here). Overall they look great and are good watches but not for the price (unless you get it for a good price).

Many/most have asian movement clones (they're not bad but on the long term they might suffer because of lower quality materials) so get one with a good swiss movement if you can. Build quality is good but can be subpar on some models or on some parts (such as having a bezel made out of cheap steel that bends easily).

Here's my modern Zodiac with some vintage siblings, @Jwit

I got it in great condition, used, for way cheaper than the new list price and I'm happy with it. It's not too large and has enough design cues to the vintage pieces and I don't worry about thrown it in a bag for foul weather when I travel

@meghanfox17 points out the classic example, but as you can see, I tend to be drawn to the pieces with graphic designs and the acrylic bezel. I'm not sure I would have gone with the red bezel if all were available for the same price but I'm happy I did. I'm not at all drawn to the non Sea Wolf modern Zodiacs FWIW.

It's fun, robust enough for my needs and has a vintage vibe I like.

Hope that's helpful.

G.

Thank you guys for your input.

I am well, thank you for asking, @meganfox17.

I think my issue is that I just have the itch to buy a new watch and seeing these with the possibility of getting it for almost 40% off was very tempting. I don't think I would like it in the long run and always knowing that it's Fossil kind of turns me off. I considered the possibility of maybe trying to get it at discount and turn it over for a profit (and spend the profit on something that I truly want), however that felt a bit dishonest.

Additionally the outsourced work and lower quality parts would probably lead to problems in the future and buyers remorse(one of my least favorite feelings).

Thank you all for your thoughts and feel free to continue the discussion if needed

Both the vintage ones and the modern ones look nice. The modern ones have quite a distinct look...

does the fact that you can get 70% off ring any bells?

I like some of the new models, but mostly the Super Sea Wolf '68. I have read that parts are sourced from all over Switzerland and it is assembled at there location in Switzerland. It is too early to determine how good they maintain time, etc. I hope they do well.
