Evening folks

As some of you may already know, I'm rather partial to a NATO to mount my Speedmaster on and have accumulated several over the past couple of years (possibly because I can't afford to accumulate more Speedmasters). So when I saw this new Velcro appear on the Omega website a few months ago, I felt it needed a place in the collection.

Unfortunately it kept on showing as 'Out Of Stock.' I couldn't find it for sale anywhere else so I emailed Omega. They got back to me saying there had been an issue with QC and didn't know when it would be available, so I forgot all about it until last week when I saw it reappear on the site. A few mouse clicks and a bit of typing and it was on its way... shipped for free to the UK by DHL within two working days.

First of all, this strap is far better quality than the astronaut Velcro strap that comes with the Moonwatch, which I've often felt is comparatively poor. The material is of a dense weave and the stitching is heavy-duty. The Omega and Speedmaster logos are raised (a bit like Braille) and the contrast is fantastic, and it feels light and comfortable on the wrist - only one layer of fabric under the watch rather than the two of a NATO. Plus the packaging and accessories are excellent too - quality cardboard box contains a red zip-up pouch with the strap, certificate of authenticity, changing tool, spare NATO springbars and a felt pad.

I like that strap but it's ruined for me with the giant text printed on it. No need to walk around advertising that it's a SPEEDMASTER MOONWATCH. It looks childish and cheapens the appearance of wearing the watch. Just my humble opinion.

So how much $ for an Omega velcro band?

 

I modify the included velcro to fit my wrist. This one looks thick and durable. What sort of material is that? Here’s mine

No, it's not awful. Too much has been made of it.

 

What is MSRP on the Velcro strap?

 

It was 125 GBP... not sure about USD; I understand it's not available in the States yet.

 

It's very much thick and durable... a kind of nylon weave, much denser and heavy-duty than the Velcro from the 'suitcase.' It almost passes for leather.

Different. Not something I’d buy/wear. Why do you ask?

 

I love the idea of a velcro strap but whenever I try it I feel a little silly. Less Nasa astronaut and more the kid that can’t tie his laces so has to wear special velcro shoes kinda thing.
