New to me Flightmaster 145.013

Hello all. Just bought this off of eBay and an awaiting it's delivery. It seems like it's a curious specimen. It has a Type 1 case, but 333 serial which I believe makes it more in line with the timeframe of a 145.026 which the dial matches.

The case looks good but the caseback and pushers are overpolished from the pictures. I do not have possession yet.

What do you all think? Did Omega put 911 movements and this type of dial in the early cases or do you think it's a franken watch?

Thanks,
Chuck

It has definitely had work done to it and I think you’ll find the pushers are not over polished but actually incorrect replacements. The case, although a supposed type 1, has been refinished to return its radial sunburst finish but has been done too excessively to the point where the edge of the case is sitting too low relative to the crowns and pushers. It’s most apparent along the wiggle of the line of the case that touches the top of the main crown and pushes.

My un-authoritative vote is for a watch that’s been put together from a few other watches. Not unattractive but not original.

Thanks for your insight. That would be a lot of polishing to get the case down that low to the pusher level. I am kinda thinking now it is a type 1 case but with a newer movement. Definitely agree with you now about the pushers.

Thanks

This is a built up watch. The serial does not match with transitional 145.013. The case is badly polished, pushers are wrong. I would send it back if possible.

Here’s a comparison of your watch (on the white background) compared to a Type 1 case (black background) taken from my copy of the Flightmaster only book.

As you can see, and as I mentioned above when I spoke about a ‘wiggle’, yours has a slight ‘dip’ between the pushers which isn’t evident on the example case from FMO which has a smooth continuous line.

So yes, as said above, I agree that it’s a Type1 case but it’s one that’s been given a good cut.

I can and most likely will. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing and being open about this watch. You've helped educate us and hopefully future collectors.

I see what you’re saying now. I just finished the book myself a week ago and that’s what piqued my interest in the watch. I bought this one off eBay before I had the chance to really go back through the book and check everything. I was more focused on the type 1 case. I like the size. I have a mark II racing and the grotesquely huge z-33 spacemaster, lol, so the thinner profile appealed to me. Thanks again.

I think you’ll find that even the MKI case is considerably fatter than the Speedy MKII, have never tried a z-33 on tho.
But great watches if you can find a good one. 😀
