Bought my new Speedmaster Professional last Saturday and found that it is consistently gaining around 1 minute in every 12 hour period. I've spoken to the shop where I purchased it from and they have advised that new watches take time to 'settle in', and not to worry as it should correct itself over the fist 6-8 weeks? They also said that this is more common with a manual wind watch? I was winding it twice a day for the first couple of days but now just wind it up fully on an evening. Any thoughts?
+1min/12hr is far outside specification I'm not a watchmaker (others on here are, and will probably chime in so listen to them moreso than me) but, any "settling down" seems to be fanciful thinking if the dealer believes that will correct this large a variation. If you bought the watch at an Omega boutique, it would be fixed without question. Was this purchased at an authorized Omega dealer?
I have never heard this before. Seems to me this would have been tested before it left Omega factory. Omega boutique will check this with there equipment.
2 min a day is not going to 'settle down'. If this was a new new speedy, which paragon of horological expertise dud you buy it from?
Bought new from a high street Jeweller, but 100 miles from where I live (with international warranty) so I was thinking I'd monitor it for another week then take into a local Goldsmith's if it is still gaining.
yeah, at this point I'd be reluctant to take it back to the original dealer. Just make sure you are giving it a full wind before testing the accuracy.
I'm pretty sure I remember @Archer saying that omega's spec for the cal 1861 movement is 11s a day. Worth knowing if goldsmiths are being sticky.
I checked on the Omega Website & they had JJ Rudell listed as my nearest Omega service centre so I have taken it into them this morning. However, as it's warranty work they are sending it off to Omega @ Southampton and have advised that it will take about 3 weeks to get it checked out (boo!) Do we know what the 'official' tolerance is as Rudells are saying 20 seconds per day?
speedy pro is estimated to be okay at -1 to +11 by Omega standards for this model. I think the watch is magnetized a little personally but otherwise it might just need a regulation. Gluck!
Got it back from Omega and have been monitoring over the past 3 days. It's showing +9 seconds per 24hrs, so I'm happy with that and to celebrate I've ordered the black Rally deployment strap!
Glad you got it back and running like it should. We would really like to know what they did. I'm betting George was right with magnetized.
