Just picked up a NIB 311.30.42.30.01.005. It's currently at the watchmaker's having a new Japan Racing Dial and hands installed. Also ordered the Omega clasp with micro adjustments.

Nice, I am looking forward to seeing it complete. I wish there was an easy way to tell what dials were swappable. I would like to put a panda or white style dial on my 3861

I am with others to see the pics of the watch after its transformation! If you dont mind me asking how are you actually managing this? Meaning where did you get the dial and hands from? OB or AD or eBay?? And what about the watchmaker - I guess you need someone really trustworthy? Sorry for maybe asking stupid questions but I never met anyone who is actually doing a mod.

Speaking of the Racing dial, I recently acquired a full conversion Japan Special Racing watch done by Adam Lewis in Perth. This particular watch started life as a 3594.50, ca 2003 (it was a series in honor of the first Speedmaster of 1957), and was converted to a full spec 3570.40 Japan Special Racing model. The movement was completely rebuilt and any worn, damaged parts were replaced. The mid-case was completely refinished back to factory spec with any dings/dents welded prior to refinishing. A new bezel and correct back for the Ref. 3570.40 model were installed, along with a new Japan Special Racing dial and hands. And a new correct bracelet for that reference, 1998/849, was also included. Everything is as it should be for a 3570.40. It is obviously NOT one of original 2004 pieces but it is identical spec wise, and the case and movement date from the approximate time period as well.

I'm not a great fan of steel bracelets on most Speedmasters so I ordered a Genteel charcoal Maya leather strap with orange stitching fitted to a 16mm Omega deployant clasp. It all ties together, imo, and presents a very sporty appearance.

I look forward to seeing some pics of the OP's watch once it has the new dial and hands.

The original donor watch, a 3594.50 with Broad Arrow hands, steel bezel:

That strap looks great. Was this a special order at Genteel?

Yes, special order. Easy to spec out a strap to your specifications on his website, then it takes about 5 weeks until the DHL guy arrives with the strap.
