New Speedmaster ‘57

We already have threads going on all the new 2022 editions except this one (even the little-loved Constellation!) so I’m starting one on the new ‘57 edition.

This is the only new watch that I like. I also called this (pat myself on the back) last year when the old ‘57 was discontinued. I posted on a thread that I thought they would put the new manual wind movement from the Chronoscope in it to make it thinner and smaller. Got some pushback that they would not make another manual wind Speedmaster variant.

Ha! And they even list it $400 cheaper than the old one. This one is definitely tempting.

I love this watch and have to, with great effort, keeping turning away from the news about it because I'd be very tempted to order one. Given that I just got a new 3861 Moonwatch for my last birthday, that would seem a bit much. But this is really something.

Yes, the green-dialed version really got my attention, too. Love the diameter, thickness, and high-tech manual-wind movement.

p.s. Since I can't afford a birth-year Speedmaster (that would be a 2915-1) without winning the MegaLottery first, this particular model may be as close as I can get 😀

Yeah. Can’t decide between that or the blue. Will need to see in person first.

What's with the super long lugs though?

The diameter is smaller than the moonwatch professional, but the lugs got LONGER? Why!!??

I noticed that as well. According to one video review I saw of it, the lug-to-lug is 50 mm. That’s pushing the level of wearability for me. My Seamaster 300 MC has 48mm lug to lug and it’s almost too large across my wrist.

I will definitely want to try one of these on before I pull the trigger. Luckily, it’s not a Rolex, so that shouldn’t be a problem. 😉

I have tried the IWC Mark 18, which is similar in size and lug to lug. It felt pretty large.
I am not optimistic about this one either.

Why does Omega make the retro models so weirdly big? Both the chronoscope and the new 57 are somehow bigger than the moonwatch.

I'm curious to try one in person. I liked the dial and layout of the previous version, but those darn straight lugs made it wear really big.

I really like the new color options. The color straps in combo with the colored dials are a bit overbearing for my taste, so I'd personally go for the braclet. I think the red option is my favorite as of now. Definitely looking forward to checking them out at my local OB!

I don't own a speedy... and I dont think it would be right to get one of these '57 speedys as my first. A traditional 3 sundial speedy just feels right.

This could be my only chrono. I love the green and the blue dial. However I'm a bit hesitant about the manual wind. I don't mind it, in fact I like it, in a pocket watch with a big onion crown. When it comes to wrist watches though, I generally find the crown too small and the process too tedious as a result. I'd have to see it in action IRL.

I really love what Omega has introduced with these new '57's. Such vibrant colors and the fume type of coloration on the straps. Congrats Omega

The colors are fantastic. I am just not a fan of the date complication.

This one is the most interesting of the 2022 releases for me too. I really want to see the black sandwich dial in person and how the rather long lug to lug wears on my wrist.

How many of you would pick the new '57 over the 2017 Trilogy 60th Anniversary Speedmaster?

65th Anniversary...

...vs 60th Anniversary

I would probably pick the new one (if it fits) because I like the two-register chronograph look and functionality, more.
