New SMP serial question

Is the best way to authenticate a newer SMP by taking the serial number and checking the test results on the omega website or can it still be a fake with a cloned serial from a real serial?

I'm not sure that I can answer this question as Thoroughly as you might like but I do know that fakes sometimes use a real omega serial, but when that happens you typically get a bunch of fake watches with the same serial. Googling the serial might reveal this.

Most of the fakes that crop up have serious issues with the dial, chronograph subdials if there are any, hands, text, date window if there is one, location of the helium Escape valve if there is one, and serious issues with movement and proper jewels (esp on cases of modern coax). If you want to know if something is fake there is a thread here where you can post images:

https://omegaforums.net/threads/is-this-watch-real-or-fake-thread-aka-fake-busters.43911/

There are a lot of helpful members here really good at spotting fakes.

A couple other things:
1) It is too good to be true, it's probably too good to be true!
2) it's not uncommon for scammers to use images of a real watch when sharing images
3) Buy the seller
4) if not #3, then spend some time informing yourself! A good detective rarely gets scammed because most scammers are looking for easy marks.

Hope this helps!

The best way to authenticate a newer SMP is to take it to an Omega Boutique.
