New Seamaster 300 black vs blue decision

Just got mine delivered on Friday, I think it was about 6 weeks from when I ordered it with the AD. As others have noted it’s a pretty matte/subtle blue unless in direct sunlight then it really has a nice pop of color

I tried on both colors this weekend, HUGE mistake. It's next on my list. While I'd like to say I'd go with blue, I know I'll ultimately stick with black. That blue needs to be seen in person to appreciate it's stunning....

"The brand-new Omega Seamaster 300 -- seen through a glass lightly..."

My blue is on order -- could be a while, apparently, though not a Snoopy Award while, I hope.

I'm excited to have found this thread. This watch was never of interest to me. However, I visited the AD today and they had a black one in stock. Beautiful watch.

So here I am trying to research it haha

Any more pics?

Also, why is this one hard to find on instagram?

I tried looking at #seamaster300 and #omegaseamaster300 and most of the photos are of the 300m, not the 300 !

By the way I got the BB58 two days ago so that helped me a lot to go for the blue and not the black! Here they are

I'm in the exact opposite situation as you. I just picked up the BB58 in blue a month ago so that has me leaning toward the Black Seamaster 300. Great pair for sure.

I'd always go Black over Blue especially with the last model but with the bond smc 300 I went blue and was really happy with my choice.
With this watch you could go either way but I do have to say the blue is very nice, Omega does a great job when it comes to blue divers.
I agree - I would go blue.

Tired both on at the Omega Boutique and they are both amazing. Really hard to chose. I feel the markers show up a bit better on the blue but the black is truer to history and isn't that why one would gravitate towards a watch with "aged" lume? That being said I have the 2018 Railmaster non LE with a black dial and "aged" lume so I'm going blue. In my IMO there is no wrong choice.

I tried both on at the Omega boutique in London (Oxford St) and it may have been the lighting but I found the blue washed out, in particular when it came to the bezel. I thought the contrast between the black and the faux patina worked better and that the black would be a more timeless design. I’ve ordered the black (from somewhere else for a fair bit less) and am waiting for it to be delivered. I’ll post some detailed pics when it arrives.....

comparing them side by side I felt the opposite, I thought the makers stood out better on the blue dial but to each is own. I really love both.

You may have a new contender now 😉

how is this a contender? They are both very different watches altogether.

You are right, absolutely my bad, just read the title and went straight to the end without noticing its the "old style" Seamaster 300 topic, not the SMP300. Sorry for that.

For those of you who have seen black and blue both in the metal….is the legibility much different. I am very interested in this watch and have held the blue on wrist, but only briefly. What has an inkling of doubt in my mind is the dial legibility and the perceived thinness of the sandwich numerals when I see video of the blue. Yet, the black dial comes up differently - seems crisper. Is that just a photo thing or does the black dial truly stand out more?

No difference that I can see with regards to the text readability between the two dial colours, that said, the blue (in my opinion) shows the depth of the dial better as the dark shadow on the sandwich dial shows up really well against the blue, as can be seen in the photos, whereas with the black dial they just blend into the dark dial.

Brilliant!!!!

I think that's exactly what I"m seeing. I'm assuming ( because it is hard to tell ) that yours is black dialed and that's why your highlit shadow areas appear invisible.

Do you think the Blue effect is a positive or a negative?

I’ve got the blue dial version… shown here against my Speedy so it’s easier to see!

Frankly, the way that dial changes color is just remarkable. I've got a speedy as well - so this is a really helpful shot for me. Thank you!

I have the black dial... when I tried both on it was a difficult decision but ultimately black won out because, well, I guess I am old and to my mind watch dials for the most part are typically black (as unscientific and illogical as that is).
I will say that the blue is gorgeous but I did find the black a touch more legible to my eyes.

Wow that lume really shines nicely! I know what you mean - I have a fair number of black divers - but not one that fits this kind of space. Those photos are fantastic!

I actually really liked the prior version of the watch and have been thinking about reaching up and grabbing a Spectre - but I know I'd appreciate the new case's shorter, curved lugs a lot. Plus, I'm a sucker for that crystal.
