New pickup Omega 371 Solid 14k -- is the dial too far gone for you?

EDIT 351 not 371

Grabbed this today for around gold price. Unfortunately the dial is a bit messed up. It doesn't appear to have been redialed before but there are some bad nicks on the font of Omega and Automatic. I'd hate to get it redialed and lose the originality of it.... what do you all think about it?

Yes, too far gone. Please return it. 馃榿

I'm serious about the dial, and also it's never a good thing when spring bars poke through the holes.

The whole watch is pretty much worn, not only the dial - including the movement with different colours in the plating

Can I ask what price you paid for it. If it was good value then good on you for saving it from being scrapped. Its not beautiful but its still an omega. Good luck.

Thanks for the input guys. I can deal with the worn look but someone mentioned on another forum theres mold growing on the dial. Is this true? or is it dirt/grime?

Yep looks like mold as the watch has probably seen some water ingress.

hmmm well that is off putting. I guess the worst case scenario is I just scrap it and get my money back...

Not sure everybody will like the idea but maybe you get the case and bracelet nice polished so they get their brightness back. Then you'd have a nice contrast between very aged dial and shiny gold watch. Also shows that it's on purpose and not just a worn out watch.

Or you can just have the dial refinished or look for another dial

Not sure if this helps the watch out at all but I cleaned up the crystal a little and took a picture in better lighting with proper spring bars and a strap. My watchmaker says he may be able to reduce the black mold around the edges with rodico and some other techniques he knows of... Upon closer inspection it does appear to have been redialed at some point.

I would just clean it up as much as possible. I think it will show its age well.

I think it's a bit of a mindset thing, do you want a watch that shows it's history a little or something that looks restored.

I for one do like patina and age. I however dont like the black molding around the edges. I think if my watchmaker can minimize that it will look a bit better! I like buying beat up watches and trying to get them back to good shape, especially gold ones that were destined for scrap.
