Hi all,

I just purchased this and after close analysis something most definitely seems off. Maybe it’s just me.
I have questions about the dial and also the fact it has a cal.551 which and a 14381 dial but the back casing has 14393…idk

Keen for another opinion from the experts on anything you notice

Hello,

Unfortunately, this is a clear redial to my eyes.
Dealer had put “the dial was professionally restored some time in the past”

The dealer is truthful about it at least.
You can see that it is a redial at the font of the text, the placement of the text, missing dots at every 5 mins.

After looking at it a bit more, I am afraid of the whole watch authenticity. I havent seen this combination of movement, case and dial before. It might be a franken.
I will let other chime in.

There are certainly issues with the case back.
A no-date watch with this case should be a 14381.
However, both 14381 and 14393 (date version) should have a solid gold medallion, with no brickwork on the observatory.
So, either it is a replacement (later) 14393 case back (which I haven't seen on OF before) or a replacement medallion from a later case back style.

Either way, the caseback doesn't belong to that dial.

Arrowhead 14381s are relatively uncommon - so it is possible the dial doesn't belong to the case (and it is a 14393 case, with the above caveats regarding the caseback)

All in all something of a mish-mash I'm afraid.

worth returning if you value authenticity .

Also, that minute hand cannot be correct, can it? Not reaching the minute register?

At least the rotor rub matches the case back. 🙄

So many issues with this one. If you have had it less than 7 days and you bought on Chrono24, you can return on grounds of misrepresentation, if seller sold it as original. But probably not on basis of redial if it was disclosed. Just need to notify Chrono24 that it is not as represented before they release the escrow funds. Good luck.

Thankyou everyone and I will be sending the item back, don't know why I didn't trust my gut instinct at the start.

Hopefully the following purchase was a better one...

A little patience please @Trilly14

if you want an assessment of the watch you will need to provide significantly clearer pictures.
This is all you can see when you blow your pictures up - any comment would be pure guesswork.

Sorry I didn’t realise that, are these any better?

Much better.
It’s a correct 168.005 pie pan..
Onyx inserts to indices.
Some bubbling to the dial.

The case is a little soft but probably looks good on the wrist.

The movt is clean.
A replacement rotor but that’s fine.
Movt needs servicing or regulating as the regulator is hard over to one side.
Serial suggests circa ‘66.

BOR is a nice bonus.

What would the market value on this watch be as it is now in USD?
I’m still only learning the value of everything

If you tell us how much you paid we'll be able to tell you if it was a good deal.....

With the bracelet for $950 you did ok for a pie-pan 168.005 - especially if you enjoy a 'lived in' patinated dial.

Was it sold with as having recent service?
