For me I’d go for the sapphire. Mainly because I love display case backs and the applied logo.

Has anyone seen or heard a successful swap of the new 3861’s presentation caseback onto the 3861 Hesalite model? I’m really hoping I’ll be able to convert mine over at some stage.

In the meantime, I’ll keep enjoying that step dial through the Hesalite crystal 🥰

I might have to choose soon. A delightful burden. I would ordinarily be on Team Plastic. I love the edge distortions, etc. & the all brushed bracket is more my jam but this will be my first Chrono and despite being generally a huge fan of solid casebacks, I think this movement is worth seeing. Also my watch faces tend to find things to bang into. Plus, that applied logo, that tips it for me. If I had to decide now: Sapphire.

I would have gotten the sapphire if the bracelet was all brushed. For me, this was my deciding factor besides the advantages of both to include the pricing.

I’m so torn y’all - this is one of the main reasons why I don’t own one yet … oh and I guess I need to save up enough first haha

There really isn't a bad option on these new speedys. I picked up the hesalite version a week ago. Would have loved that applied logo, but it's something i can live without. I really wanted the solid case back, and 9/10 ill always go for a hesalite option over sapphire if its offered. Mine also came on the sailcloth with deployant clasp, so I had the option when choosing the bracelet. Ordered the brushed option yesterday.

I opted to go with sapphire. My first manual wind and I liked the ability to ogle at the movement. I pondered for a couple of weeks before deciding to go with this instead of Hesalite. It's going to see a lot of wrist time, and I'm not the gentlest person on my watches.

As I had much doubts before purchase and finally decided to go for Hesalite (it simply wouldn't be Moonwatch with sapphire - there are better sapphire speedys than Moon in that case), I would like to give my 10 cents on the subject, as these threads were helpful for my own final decision as well:
1. Hesalite is not even closely sensitive as some guys are stating on various forums/topics here and on WUS. I'm still to scratch it and I wear watch constantly for 3 weeks now. Had one hard hit on the side mirror of the car. Nothing. Polywatch is ready though, and I love the fact you can remove scratches easily if/when they occur.
2. It's personal prefference, but hesalite is more pretty than sapphire.
3. Again personal prefference, but open caseback does noting for me. Usually I take a look at it first few days and then it's goodbye forever. I like to listen at ticking though...
4. Applied logo would be nice to have, but it's hidden behind chrono hand anyway, so not a big deal
5. Sapphire bracelet is touch too blingy for my taste. Brushed one is beautiful and work-class at the same time. I have a big wrist 7,5" and still it looks great and comfortable. For smaller wrists it will be even better
6. Price was not an issue in my case, but it could be decisive factor for some...

I'm very happy with my decision, it's my first Speedy ever after many Seamasters and few DeVilles and I love it...
I love it so much that I took it as close to Moon as possible as soon as I could (and I'm from Europe)...

May I ask which place you visited where you could touch a moon rock? I might go there myself one day.

Sure. It is in NASA Space Center in Houston. Amazing place for NASA, Space, Moon and Moonwatch lovers...

All dessed up and ready to go! Brand new plastic crystal.

When I got home

These scratches needs more than Polywatch to come out, luckily I got abrasives, specially for acrylics, up to 8000 grit.

One wote for saphire!

I will pick sapphire. Do not like both bracelets, so a NATO will do it. The main factor would it be height, any gain there is so important…

If you're looking for Speedmaster Moonwatch, then Hesalite.
If you're looking for a Speedmaster, either will do

I own the perfect modern Speedy in the FOIS,😉 which has an (if not THE) APL and sapphire, and when I checked out the new models I preferred the hesalite, not least because I think the step dial works so well with that warmer, softer crystal and I rarely look at open casebacks. The price difference wouldn't have moved the needle that much either way for me but it's worth noting, and I prefer the hesalite's bracelet.

But both are superb choices that can anchor any collection -- or be a fine one-watch box.

FWIW, my AD has told me that while the sapphire initially outsold the hesalite very noticeably that gap has now narrowed.

+1 for hesalite, picked this up a couple of days ago, the majority of my watches have acrylic Crystal's, it's a look I really like over sapphire.

I figure if Omega went to all the trouble of making the new Speedy Pro like the vintage Speedy Pro (step dial, DON, extra taper on the bracelet), then I had to go Hesalite. It's the way the Moonwatch should be.
