    From Omega's web site:

    moonwatch7.jpg

When did the "Moonwatch 7" nomenclature come into play? Can't say I've noticed it before today. It's not necessarily objectionable...I'm just curious. It appears Omega has concocted a new way to refer to one group of watches, among its many Speedmaster offerings.

Is it coincidental that there are 7 models categorized as "Moonwatch 7", or are these supposed to be THE Moonwatch 7, kind of like The Magnificent Seven?

I think they just muddy the water by calling other models the Moonwatch - it's confusing if you're looking for the actual NASA-certified model; you have to go through Dark Sides and moonphases etc.

Yes, strictly speaking I believe only refs. 311.33.42.30.01.001, 311.30.42.30.01.005, and 311.30.42.30.01.004 would qualify as contemporary NASA-certified offerings because they're the only (contemporary) models with both a hesalite crystal and solid caseback.

I'll allow the sapphire crystal / caseback models in the family too, since they're aesthetically the same and not doing so would be needlessly confusing to the average consumer.

Completely agree. These references conform to the original specifications. I also agree that the average consumer is easily confused as I've also heard people refer to to the Speedmaster auto and reduced as moonwatches(wrongfully so). I guess it's a loose term in all but knowledgeable circles.

    OR

There's not an actual, empirically correct definition and people/groups end making their own definitions and rationale.

I mean, if Omega calls DSOM a "moonwatch," who is the consumer,"knowledgeable" or not, to say it's not?

Maybe it stands for $7K....the new price in 12 months.

Joking aside it's kinda weird, especially with no explanation whatsoever.

Yet another development on the Omega web site: The "Reveal the price" feature is now gone. It wasn't there very long in the first place -- maybe two weeks or so.

Hiding pricing until someone either calls or walks into the store is kind of annoying to me. I think it might even work against them - when I was spending some time dreaming on the Jaeger-LeCoultre website a year or two ago, seeing the prices listed next to the watches actually made me more confident I could work up to buying one. It helps as I don't think I'm fancy enough to be allowed in the JLC boutique on Madison yet ;)

I agree with this sentiment. Seeing a product and not knowing what it'll cost you really bugs me.

It's not a case of 'if you have to ask the price you cant afford to buy it'. It is a case of, 'I would like to know the price so I can determine if the watch is good value for money'.

True - that and, "I would like to know the price to see if I could swing it, rather than guess at price, save up for months / years, and find it's still out of my price range / find I could have bought it ages ago, with another watch to boot!"

The omega mobile site still shows the prices here in Switzerland. The "Reveal the Price" button oddly showed up after a whole minute of waiting. In case anyone is wondering, everything is still expensive...

I just checked and the 'reveal price' feature has returned here (in the US), too. (on hard-wire Internet; haven't checked mobile yet)

Unfortunately, my next "must have" watch is just as expensive as it was a few days ago.

Next they will have a push button with a 9 square reveal board and every time you push it reveals a little more of the price

    interesting....Moonwatch 7...

except it looks exactly like the Speedy Pro 3570.50 (or what the new on is...) seems shinier though, and the dial seems to have a bit more texture?
