Hello! Known as the_vintage_ad on other fora and on Instagram: instagram.com/the_vintage_ad/, but you can also call me Bas! I'm active for around 8 years in watch collecting and just recently made my Omega-Forums account. I off course did some lurking here and just had to introduce myself. With the HBO TV series Boardwalk Empire in 2010 I got into the fashion and accessories of the 1920's. Not much alter I started collecting Art Deco watches from Hamilton, Elgin and Walthams. This somewhat expended to "just" vintage watches. From Art Deco to Funky 70's, but the last 3 years has been a bit more focused on 3 smaller sub-collections. In the beginning I didn't really feel for Rolex/Tudor but it now has been a big part of the collection with sub 36mm Oysters in particular. I'm also interested in elegant time only pieces from the mid 30's to early 60's. Especially the word elegant must come to mind when you see the watch. Like my IWC Cal. 89 or a sector dial from the 40's and eventually there will be a Patek 96. Besides these 2 points of focus I'd like to expend also a third sub collection with a focus on chronographs with a militarily or racing point of view. Like my Alpina 943. So what about Omega? I'm not focused on Omega in any of my collections but some pieces really go well with it. Like the CK 805 and T17. I'd love to be a part of the Omega community and these forums are probably the best of the web when it comes to information. Thank you for reading my intro!
Welcome, beautiful collection and you clearly have a refined and elegant taste. Extra points for the photography skills.
welcome and dibs on the Alpina, what a beauty! Is that a Jag your watches are relaxing in? It certainly reminds me of my old XJR
Jaguar is for the common folk. Real snobs drive a Daimler But yeah it's a X308 Daimler SV8. Same engine as the XJR.
Hi Bas, And welcome. A few years ago I saw an (I think) Oris ad, which I haven’t been able to locate since so, if you know of it, it would be great to see it again. The ad had a caption along the lines of, “If the watch has stopped, don’t call us - call a doctor - because it will mean that you haven’t moved your arm for two days”. Robert
