The Biggest issue here is that the reedition, which is the same metal as the original, costs nearly 2x of a mint version vintage.
Though I count myself firmly in the Zenith fanboy ranks, the fact (as others have already mentioned) that original g381s can be had for significantly less than this hommage makes me question the point of it all. It's a lovely piece, but 19k for a Zenith? Even the Hodinkee marketing magic isn't that strong.
I have a huge appreciation for Zenith and the El Primero, but this piece does nothing to me. I don't know if I dislike the Dink' Effekt or the fact that I can get the Original for less.
I think despite the dink effect, knowing you can get an original for less would have been chomping to get an original piece if this watch spoke to me more.
Can I please ask what is meant here by "dink" effect?. There must be a connotation I am missing, double income no kids or hitching a croggy on your mate's pushbike just don't seem apt. Thanks.
