Hi everyone. I know NOTHING about watches but my wife has taken some interest in a vintage watch and I'm looking to find her one for our wedding anniversary coming up. I honestly don't know what to look for but I do have a few ticks to check.
I would like to find:
yellow gold case
leather band
tank style
omega, seiko, tissot, tudar are a few that I've been checking out.
$500 possible?
Thanks for any info and advice you can offer.

I definitely think you can find that for $500 or less but you should also budget for a full movement service which may cost an additional $300 or so.

You mention ‘“vintage”. Or do you mean a new watch with a “vintage” look? If you are looking for “vintage”, there’s a chance you might be looking at mechanical or quartz. Does she have a preference? If new, you can forget new Omega or Tudor watches in that price range. Tissot or Seiko, you’ll end up with quartz. If you want an older “vintage” watch, prepare to shell out to have it serviced.

Welcome! I also looked around for a nice gold watch for my wife, and there are great options (I wasn't looking for tanks) in the $400-$700 range. As mentioned, getting one from a watchmaker that is serviced makes a lot of sense. Nice thing about tanks, is you don't have to be too specific about women's size. A lot of vintage tanks are totally wearable by either sex.

All that said, solid gold tanks are desirable in some circles, and I bet you'll be in for more than $500 by the time it's all over.

Thanks for the replies guys. I honestly think she wants an old used but in good shape watch. With that said, I assume I'd rather find a mechanical than a quartz yes? Her friend has an old Seiko tank yellow gold with black band that she really likes so I think I would like to find something close to that.
Am I stuck looking around on eBay or are there some reputable places to browse that won't sell me a fake or face reprinted watch?

Unfortunately, most vintage watch dealers don't deal in ladies watches, and you would pay a high premium to buy from a dealer in any case. I have seen some ladies watches for sale on Etsy, but the focus is more on cosmetic appeal than authenticity/collectibility. I doubt that they sell many watches in solid gold cases. Since gold is currently so high, gold watches are being scrapped left and right. Especially watches that aren't terribly collectible.

I suspect that a large percentage, perhaps the majority, of vintage ladies watches will either have badly damaged dials or they will be repainted. They were rarely water resistant. So you will need to be patient and look closely.

As noted above, you could consider a vintage men's tank watch. Many are not terribly large.
