All,

Just a short note of appreciation for a great set of fora, and a short introduction.

I'm retired now, but first got into watches when I was working on aircraft instruments. Back then Down Under, it was Goodwill stores, dealers and Cooksey Shugart. A very different time. I have had my share of hits and misses over the years, and even a few bouts of (albeit short) watch pursuit remission.

Over the years I have picked up a share of modern and vintage. I don't chase anything specifically, but always seem to come back to Omega. I love the design look and value proposition.

Part of me finding this place was a decision to pick up a reasonably decent vintage Seamaster, and the need to bone up. There are so many pitfalls out there.

I'll be reading and learning for quite a bit yet.

Welcome,

I went on several collector trips in the 1990s that Cooksey also attended. Surprisingly I never got his book. Some of the members were always looking for flea markets and pawn shops. It was interesting to watch them evaluate stuff. Omega was still a bit under the radar then, so I was able to build up a decent collection. There was still a lot of fallout from the quartz crisis.

Even then I tended to the low end stuff from places like Goodwill, and other charity shops.

Took an 18 or so year break from actively collecting. Been back to my old bad habits for a year now. The itch never really goes away.
