I'm a beat up old canoe kinda guy, but I'll be out on the waterways casting my line and trying to not concern myself with tariffs this summer.

It might be nice to have a locked thread about this and proposed changes to tariff rates. Many just want to know what to expect if they buy a Swiss watch in the US.

But as stated, there should not be any change to the Swiss origin tariff rate of 15%.

And just because it was brought up, i bought a Swiss watch a few weeks ago and was responsible for paying the tariff rate. UPS also charged a $15 "brokerage" fee. Which is different from before, when they tried to make the shipper pay the tariff up front.

Is it down to 15%, when did that change take effect?

Wasn't that after the Swiss visit where president Orange got the Rolex desk clock and a gold bar?

So according to this its still 39% for Switzerland, and the agreement in November is more of an agreement to a framework to come up with an agreement in Q1 2026 to reduce it to 15%, but I can't see any information indicating that it has actually taken place yet.

To the best of my understanding from what I'm reading it is still 39% until more talks take place at which point a date will be set for it to come down to 15%, assuming all parties agree.

See this link. On December 18th, the rate was lowered to 15%, retroactive to November 14th.

Aren't you glad you didn't lock the thread? 😉

As I often tell my students, I bet you had no idea you were in danger of learning something today.

I've got two watches since all of this started. Both were below $800 and they went sailing through. DHL did try charging something outrageous for a Baltic watch but a single call cleared that up. Only package that was held up was a $50 "duty paid" set of hands where nothing was actually due. FedEx was dumb and unable to be dealt with there but eventually they were delivered. So far, I haven't paid anything extra, although who knows what's all baked into the original price. Even the Moonwatch I recently bought, although expensive, follows the average regular price increases that Omega watches experience once or twice a year for the past ten years or so, not a massive or unexpected increase due to a tariff. It seems like the discussion around tariffs has taken on a life of its own. Whatever the actual economic impact of the tariff, the uncertainty and nonstop commentary may be doing more harm than the policy itself.

If you're importing a Swiss watch to the US right now, expect the 39% tariff to significantly impact pricing, whether you're buying new or pre owned, domestically or internationally.
It is 15%.

Locking this for now since it’s not going to impact much.

To summarise, Swiss tariffs are down to 15%

Additional European tariffs are off at this point.
