I wasn't sure whether this belonged in the "vintage" or "modern" forum but I grew up in the 80/90s and I'm feeling very vintage these days... Full Disclosure: I already bought it and it's in route as we speak. Curious what you guys can tell me about it. I know it's not to everyone's tastes but I dig it. From what I can tell it has tritium lume, sapphire crystal, and a 1108 movement (aka ETA 2892) . Supposedly 35mm sans crown. I'm guessing the bracelet is not original but it should look great on a leather strap. Any idea on the year or reference?
I like the look of the dial - is it linen? Something seems off about the hands though - are they original to the watch?
I have no idea but I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. I wouldn't expect much tampering on a watch from the 90s. I did find one similar with the same hands. Possibly a newer model with lume instead of tritium.
No reference number for comparison? How many times do we have to tell noobs to research first and buy la... Oh, you've been a member for over a year.
Acceptable risk. this is from the Japan market (through a third party buyer) so questions are impossible. I've bought several watches through the same means and I've been pleasantly surprised every time -knock on wood-. You can find some great bargains on auctions with terrible pictures and no description.
It is Omega Maison Fondee, another name is Speedmaster Classic, release on the 90s. Omega have 2 versions of them: the 1st with cal 1110 & hesitate crystal - the 2nd with cal 1108 & sapphire crystal.
Japanese model, hands are correct, not a lot of info about them. Here's mine... I'll buy the bracelet from you if you don't want it
Wow thanks for the help! Beautiful watches. I never knew about this model. Are these 34mm or 35mm? Looking through older listings I see both sizes mentioned.
The funny thing is that Omega calls it "Speedmaster" Classic Heritage: https://www.omegawatches.com/planet-omega/heritage/vintage-details/14559/
...and I thought I didn't like Speedmasters. I think these are more in spirit of the 60s Seamasters. Sort of a modern Seamaster 30. I guess anything goes in the "International Collection".
Interesting. The "paddle" style handset I mostly associate with the Polaris line. If I was guessing, and only based on that evidence I'd I'd take a stab at late 80's - early 90's. Ranfft has the calibre 1108 used from 1988-1997, so that would fit as well.
Look what came in the mail today! Wow, it's even better in person. The high domed sapphire is awesome. It's thinner than expected and seems slightly larger than 35mm. The dial is more of a textured silver than linen. It's heavy compared to my manual winds but it has a solidness to it; it almost feels industructable. Highly recommended. An under-the-radar and undervalued watch in my opinion.
