You must have a very good relationship with the dealer

Authorized dealers have those watches ready in the back. You just have to buy two or three not soo wanted watches then one will pop up for you the next day. Not ethical what they are doing but it is what it is.

Buy a date just and gold sub, then buy Daytona. I think that is how it works.

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding we have a winner

Seems like you’ve already got an established relationship with the AD. However buying a Submariner and a GMT is still less than buying a precious metal watch. Until you reach that spending threshold it’ll be difficult to get the Daytona.

Other high demand watches usually won’t cut it

They are not looking for someone to suck up all the “hot” pieces.

You can ask for a sub, BLRO/BLNR and perhaps an explorer 1 and even after buying those 3 which may take a year or so, you may still face a 3 year Daytona wait. Why?

Because there are people in front of you that buy in stock day dates or full gold Daytona’s and jewellery.

Considering allocation can be as low as 1 piece in each dial colour per year, you’ll be waiting a very long time.

Even buying a full gold Daytona will see you behind someone else who has purchased several.

You would be incredibly luck to get a Daytona after buying a sub and gmt.

Buy the subs , buy the gmt, you will get priority for the Daytona

Maybe you have connection with your local AD at your location (city/country), I can tell you that most part of the world it won’t happen even if you buy several SS sport models. Subs are not too tough to get but you will find much harder for GMT and esp Daytona

Actually, the more important question is how to get a Patek 5711 at retail.

I would love to know the answer of this one. I got my nautilus stolen last year and reported it to patek. They offered to be on the waiting list for the 5711, it was only 8 years.....

A huge part of this is finding the right AD, who will support you as a customer instead of feeding the greys. That alone is difficult.
