(Edit: please see my follow up question below regarding removing the movement)

FedEx came today and dropped this off. I wasn't able to find any examples with the same dial online, so I'm not positive it's original. But I couldn't find any obvious (to me) signs of a redial. The lume glows as I would expect tritium to (after shining my flashlight on it for 30ish seconds it glows for about 5 seconds fading quickly with a faint glow for another 20 - 30 seconds).

The crystal has a lot of small scratches that are making parts of the dial track etc look wonky, but the lines are straight and crisp. I'll try to get some shots this weekend with the crystal off if it would help, but I'm curious what other members think.

I know I should ask questions like this before buying, but I plan on wearing it and enjoying it regardless. I'd just like to know what I'm wearing.

Thanks OF!

Looks OK to me. The Cosmic probably had more variety of dials than any other Seamaster of the period. Overall it looks like a nice clean original watch.

Thanks for the feedback, @X350 XJR

I’m including a pic below with the crystal removed. This was my first attempt at removing the crystal with air pressure, and it went pretty well.

I’ve got a follow up question though: does anyone have any tips on removing the movement? For similar cases, the movement has rotated counter clockwise so the case clamps lined with the spaces that allow the movement to come out. This movement does not seem to want to budge. Any tips would be appreciated.

Is the stem pushed all the way in?

Well... that’s part of my issue. When I was pulling the stem apart, both pieces of the stem came out. I was pulling it out straight / not on an angle, and I’ve never had that happen before, so I’m not sure what happened.

I was hoping to get a look at the movement to decide where to put the watch in my service queue. I took a gamble and bought it with no movement pics, so wanted to make sure everything looked to be in good shape. It was running very accurately before I started taking it apart and had gained 5 seconds in about 12 hours.

Worst case scenario, I’ll pop the crystal back on and get it to a watchmaker this week. Would love to get that stem back together, so I can hold off on that for a bit if possible though.

Edit: giving up for now. Seems to be past my limited knowledge and skill level, so just going to take it to a watchmaker this week.

Edit #2: I’m a stubborn bastard and just couldn’t walk away...
