I picked up my brand new 3861 last week from my AD. After watching a few unboxing videos and how cool looking the new box was, I realized they gave me the wrong box. Wondering if box mix up are common among the brand. After a call to my AD, they apologized but aparently ran out of the 3861 boxes. Within a few days I had the correct box.
The new 3861 is turning out to be a wonderful watch and great edition to the my watch collection.

You know that watches are paired up with a box by the retailer, right? Omega doesn't ship out watches in these silly, frilly boxes.

Did not know, guess I learn something new everyday. Thanks for the Intel.

Boxes are shipped separately from the watch and it is up to the dealer to match them up properly. Often, then mix it up (happened to me once). If the box is a big deal, insist that the AD get you the correct box. They should fix the mistake. If they don’t, good luck. In my case, I bought my Speedmaster FOIS from a boutique in Vienna and they couldn’t find the proper box. They promised to mail it to me, but did not after 3 months. I called them (from the United States), gave them my info and asked where the box was. A few days later they called back, said they did not have any correct boxes nor could they get one and offered me a couple of NATO straps in compensation.

I took the straps.

In the old days the box you got often depended on what the dealer had in stock, but now a particular watch has a particular box, but some dealers can still be sloppy. It's worth getting the right box and papers these days. Don't tarry on getting the right box, if the dealer sells another watch and sends it out in your correct box it makes it harder for him to get the right box for you.

Always a good practice to have the correct box.

The box comes with a very nice Speedmaster booklet too in the bottom of the outer box. That's quite an error and one I'd want rectified sooner rather than later.

Give the AD/OB a chance first, if they don't get it right I would register my watch on Omegas website and email them directly about this, I would not accept not getting the correct box, its part of the experience and what you paid for.

My AD is fantastic. Not only did they give me the correct box but they let keep the wooden one, that works in my book. Really good folks to deal with.

I'm not a fan of the humongous modern boxes and prefer the small neat boxes, but I can see why one would want to have the correct box in today's day and age. You never know when you might think of gutting a keeper chasing a grail. So it's not fun that such goof-ups still happen!

I really like my Omega's wooden box. It's the same as pictured above. It's much nicer than the cardboard boxes I've received from other watch makers.

Having said that, I agree the OP should have the correct box, so I'm glad it worked out.

Can we see some pics of the correct box?

Pics of New 3861 Speedmaster Box. The smallest box actually sits in the case box. When removed it can be used as a travel case. Very nice set up IMO.

That is a nice setup.

Kudos to Omega for putting some effort and expense into the design and execution of its presentation boxes.

Yes, the correct box is nicer than the "wrong" box, but even the wrong box is much better than most.
