Smaller and thinner one in the future would be nice

Agreed👍
Just a mill or two in diameter with the same in thickness and they'll be hitting 6's all over the place👍
With that pretty steel version it'll make the Rolex offering redundant and look archaic in the market place.
Perhaps Omega has a secret strategy to not make the best watch possible and really show the world what they're capable of👎

But seriously. What are the people at Omega thinking?

amen to all points.

Here’s my guess: something else is in the pipeline. More refine and mainstream. Dare I say 40mm-ish. (Please lord, let this be)

At 45.5mm Omega alienated 3/4 of its market. That’s a big fat middle finger to Asia, half of Europe and North America. At 45,5mm the UD line can be as successful as the Ploprof, I guess.

I've never thought of it like that.
Then again those big boys are for only a select few to wear and quite frankly completely out of my scope to wear so I don't even look at them as viable contenders.
The thickness of the UD puts it in another realm.
We hear it all the time. Time and again, the thickness of the DSSD is the single biggest turn off, whether it be for prospective buyers or people who may briefly entertain the possibility by trying one of their friends, or those that have bought and held for a time but ended up letting it go because the thickness eventually wore them down despite loving the watch.
Not many of us DSSD wearers are truly dedicated, with dedication being the operative word.

You don’t have to cross brand. Stay in Omega catalogue. The iconic Ploprof is a watch I drooled over for decades has never gone down to size. It would have found commercial success if it were 40mm. Omega could have eaten Panerai lunch. It’s possible that the UD line is the replacement of the discontinue Ploprof line and stay at 45.5mm.

However, I do sense that a PO line might pick up design cues from UD and we will eventually see 39mm, 42mm UD styling under PO family.

At this point, this is the 8” wrist club, I’ll see myself out.

Big fan of the dial design cues on this line but the proportions and thickness is just a red light.

All 4 of those Omegas are better aesthetically than the Rolexes.
Except for the " tooth paste cap " Helium escape valve 😁

At least the Ploprof is wearable, even for small wrists. It's also got a compelling story. The UD doesn't have that shorter L2L, and only the Ti version really has any claim to glory.

+1 to everyone on Omega really dropping the ball with these releases.

The Ultra Deep can handle more than 50% higher pressure than the Deep Sea with a few percent increase in thickness (18.2 vs 17.6mm). That seems quite a engineering feat, given that the integrity of the crystal is one of the main concerns. The Ultra Deep crystal is almost the same thickness as the Deep Sea crystal (~5mm), while the original 15000m Ultra Deep crystal is 10mm. Given that no commercially available mechanical watch comes close to the Ultra Deep it seems a little odd to be "flabbergasted". As far as I know the only dive watch that breaks the thickness vs depth rating trend is the Sinn UX, but that one needs an oil change every time you change the movement battery...

Crystal specs for anyone interested...

I have the deep sea and the Cameron deep sea as well and never thought anyone would release a watch thicker than a Cameron dssd

I don’t know abt this. The dssd is massive to the point of almost looking silly so this is even more so

Interestingly enough, I tried the DSSD on at a shop last year (exhibition-only model, of course) and hated it because it was too thick. Only later on did I realize the PO I had on my wrist was actually thicker (at 17.8mm vs 17.7mm).. The sharp edges of the DSSD case and lug design make it look bigger and feel less comfortable IMO.

Of course, in reality while I can wear my PO every day, its still not going to fit under a shirt cuff.

I imagine/hope the UD will be a similar experience. Comfy to wear while looking good on my wrist, despite being 18.12mm.

I got to try out both* variants of Omega's Ultra Deep the other day - very impressive examples of heavy-duty tool watches 😎
But at the end of the day, a bit more duty** than I really need. My two Omega SM300s, a 41mm SM300MC & a 42mm 166.0324, do the job just fine 😀

*the Ti version has a more unique appeal 🥰😎 but the NATO adds unneeded height, aesthetically speaking 🤔 whereas the steel sits quite naturally on the wrist 👍

**... & heavy, especially the steel case on the steel bracelet 😲😁

'Just got a text from my SA at Mayors Jewelers. My watch is IN! Unfortunately we have company for a few days and cannot get by the store. She said it will be safe in my stocking there.

Congrats! Very lovely colors. Careful you do not stare too long at it while driving.
