I think the dial is a bit too busy for me, not sure if I really like the new blue dial DJ either. Both the Rolex and Tudor releases were disappointing for me, not sure who will be paying $16k for a green gold BB58 with no bracelet, I guess they are just trying to jump on that Green dial daytona/GMT master hype.

I think I’ll just keep my silver dialled Datejust. I find and have always found Rolex’s dials, other than the plain ones, a bit too much.

The new silver dialled Tudor’s look boring but silver dials almost always look boring on photos but are really beautiful in natural light

Because that is bold, and the patina will be gun metal amazing.
I certainly would if they were making them the size of those early 5508 and if the bezel and dial colors were more interesting.

Yes, I can imagine the patina on these will be quite amazing. I hope there will be some articles going into more detail with the composition of the alloy.

I'm quite curious about their alloy here. From the gold- and silversmithing world, for years there's been a silver alloy called Argentium https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentium_sterling_silver that replaces some of the copper used in traditional sterling with germanium, making it tarnish resistant (though with firsthand experience, I can tell you it absolutely still eventually tarnishes) and other nice properties. I don't make a lot of silver jewelry, but when I do it's almost always Argentium, as it's quite nice stuff to work with. Hope we'll get some details soon on what Tudor's using here.

When I spoke to my AD here in northern California, they're apparently scheduled to get their official Tudor training tomorrow, April 8th. No word of course on delivery timelines for these silver pieces.

Seems most are underwhelmed by the leaf dial. There are so many amazing watches with amazing dials out there and most people just want black dials or oh yes, that cool blue dial. What if the leaf dial were only available for one year? Would you like it a little more?

Yeah that green one is odd. I don’t like to call things ugly, and I do like green dials but that just seems “mishmashed” for lack of a better word. When I read the title of the thread for a moment I did expect to see a Rolex with pot plants on the dial. With everyone making it legal, well many states in the US and other countries nothing would surprise me. It will probably get some cool nickname and shoot up in value.

wow that blue one though. Nice job. Really like that. As someone said I bet it looks better in person. I’m glad seiko makes plenty of funky dials as I won’t be getting any rolexes anytime soon but I certainly appreciate what they do and their history.

Let’s see if we can quickly come up with a durable nickname for the green foliage dial.

I’ve seen “palm” (a contender); “cannabis” of course, and some others. I don’t think “weed dial” will stick, so I’m going to vote for “green plant” dial.

Other ideas?

EDIT: Just by the way, I don’t like it at all. It’s weird and makes no sense.

I'm just gonna come out and say that I don't mind the cannabis dial one bit. Like the TT Explorer 1, they sure didn't make it for me, and it's not something I would buy for me, but I definitely don't hate it.

My honest to God first thought when I saw it -- we had wallpaper in our guest bathroom in the 1970s that looked a LOT like that pattern!

It's a weird design choice, and would otherwise be the kind of thing that you'd expect would be a shop-worn dog, hanging around for ages, but given the market with Rolex, if you do find someone this would be perfect for, it'll probably be nowhere to be found but on the GM.

Just call it the herb or the fern.

I think the green "palm" dial or whatever is hideous and cheap looking. If it WAS cannabis (which it is not based on the shape of the leaves and branches) at least it would be hideous but cheeky. As it is it is just hideous.

To me, anyway.

Agreed, I just had to do my best to make it seem interesting even though it wasn’t. They could have totally cashed in on stoner culture and celebs / influencers wanting to look cool by having a pot leaf on their watch.

Someone at another forum suggested calling it the "mary jane" dial.

It would be a smash if it actually had the words "Superlative Cannabis" on the dial 🙄

I really hope a weed themed nick name for the olive dial datejust sticks. Personally I'm a fan of The Maryjane
