Hi, I'm in need of some advice gentlemen. I have been offered this gold capped seamaster ref2846 (I think) and I just can’t make up my mind if it’s a redial or not. From what I can tell from the nuggets of knowledge I have obtained from the learned gentlemen on this forum and the omega database it pretty much seems to check out but something is nagging in the back of my mind. I think it may be the fact it seems very clean which obviously is brilliant if its authentic and not repainted but not so good otherwise. The case and caseback seem very clean too. He says it been in the family and hasn’t been serviced for a while to his knowledge. My lack of knowledge and experience are making me nervous, is it a nice clean example of should I walk away? The price is £500 or about $650 which is a considerable sum for me. I need your cold and factual advice to balance my newby impetuous urges!!!! Many thanks in advance, Kind regards, Paul
It'd be very hard to replace markers without leaving a trace, usually the markers would be glued back on not replaced entirely. I haven't really seen that so much.
Looks great!* Ok price, so buy! ** * subject to movement being in good condition and keeping reasonable time! ** and Seller being trustworthy!
Well I wouldn’t try milking it! Still just a bovine though, even though it has 2 huge cajones and only 3 legs.
That’s a good point Paul. It’s the knowing that’s important I think. For me I would have to say yes it is because part of the charm for myself at least with these lovely old things whether it’s an old motorcycle or guitar of which I am more familiar with is the fact they have been through time intact. A re-finished Indian Harley or Stratocaster does not have the charm or charisma of an original that wears its patina and scars or indeed hopefully like this watch has survived in scathed! Maybe it’s just me Maybe it’s pure bollocks but all I do know I do prefer originality over perfection in all walks of life!
