Hello I'm very new to teh vintage watch world but I really love to see them especually omega. So I decided to buy one with the budget around $300 which I think not many choice I can have.

I have found two watch, one is seamaster cal.1020. I've read on blogs that 1xxx movement need more maintenance as it is hi-beat movement. But I like to see the onyx on hour mark.

The second is seamaster cal.562 which I've read it has a beautiful movement as it has swan neck(which I don't really know what is that function). But it doesn't have onyx on the hour mark.

Cal.1020 cost $330 while cal.562 cost $355. I might want this as an investment also. I hope the value/price at least wont fall overtime.

Or should I go even further with constellation cal.1021 with the price around $550? Will it worth its investment?

I really appreciate every suggestion from everybody here as I really wanted to have omega but also really confused which is better to buy.
    thanks

Investment not really, nice watch to wear and last a long time if looked after yes..
To get a great value you will need a movement picture (inside the watch)
Where are these watches coming from Ebay, private or dealer you dont have to tell us exactly but will help with knowing if they could be real or not.
All would be good watches if authentic

I find it on private collector and I haven't got the picture of the movement. I think I will ask for the movement picture and post it here.
So can you really invest on watches with price below $1000??
Thanks Standy for the response :)

Provided that you can get better photos of the dial, case back (inside and outside), and the movement, then buy the Seamaster cal 562. That watch in s/steel is a genuine classic and will hold its value.

Agree that the 562 is the best of the bunch, I'd go for that one for sure.

Looks like there is some kind of personalized engraving on the back of the cal. 562 steel Seamaster.

If you are buying to later resell, just understand that some collectors don't like that and discount accordingly.

562 for me. I have a soft spot for the C shaped Constellations but I'm not a fan of gold plated watches.

It's some guy's presentation watch after 36 years of service at the Public Utilities Board.

What Gator's said about the engraving affecting value is correct. Personally, I like the idea of engravings providing a historical story to the watch so I don't understand the reduced value of an engraved vintage watch but it definitely does adversely affect the value unless the engraving relates to someone of historical note.

It's shame about the inscription on the back, but it is still the watch I would have! :)

I cant read the inscription exactly, buts its a long service (at work) award or a retirement present, presented to mr x bt the public utilities board for many years service (36)

Some people like this kind of history, others dont. I dont mind at all, as it adds to the history of the watch

Ps most searches of PUB relate to Singapore -
As the national water agency, PUB is responsible for the collection, production, distribution and reclamation of water in Singapore.

    - See more at: http://www.pub.gov.sg/about/Pages/default.aspx#.dpuf

Where are you and where is the watch being sold?

Thanks guys for the comment. Actually the seller have one more cal.562 with no engravings but cost $35 more. Which one should I go for? The other one has cross hair dial and onyx mark. But the movement gear I think it is aging IMG_20150112_191548.jpg

Engraved one for me. I like the history plus the second one has a poorer condition movement and I believe it has the wrong crown. Your mileage may vary though

For a piece like this it's really which one you like better. As I said, I personally prefer the engraved copy but I'm not you.
