Need help with Omega Hands! Calibre 266 38 mm

Hi Omega Fans,

New to this forums but it looks like a great community of other watch enthusiasts .

I decided to buy my first vintage watch as a present for my father. The watch is his birth year of 1956.

Omega Calibre 266 38 mm.

However, the seconds hand touches the hours hand when it is at or near 6oclock - stopping the movement all together. Please see pictures.

I have modded a few watches in the past (originally a Seiko Skx fan boy - sorry not sorry) - so i am comfortable opening up the watch and tinkering my self but it would be greatly appreciated if anyone has any advice on how to fix this?

Thanks for reading!

It seems that the second hand is bent. Anyway, you have to remove the hands with a propre tool (be careful not to damage the dial, so protect it with a plastic sheet). Then you will be able to correct the second hand if necessary and to put all the hands back correctly. You may have then not to press the hour hand too far.

That is what I would do. But it you do not feel comfortable with the operation, give the watch to your watchmaker (it is a 10 minutes process).

Real watchmakers of the forum may give you further advice.

Sometime you can do it without even taking the hands out, as the friction point may be avoided just by bending the hand upware/downwards for less than a mm.

The. single most important think is to protect the dial, acetate sheet or paper is ok, jut cut a slot so you can slip it under the hands. Then identify the hand which is not parallel to the surface of the dial dial and correct it by pushing into poi siti on with a toothpick.

Hello Franco,

This method could work if the hour hand is to be corrected, although I may prefer to remove and refit it. But if the second hand is to be corrected, this method will not be as efficient. I personnaly would be concerned with the second hand pivot if the second hand is corrected without be removed.

Success! Thanks for the help - turns out the seconds hand was too high. Used a hands presser to put in the correct place. All ready to gift now.

Thanks again.
