Hi
this was my fathers watch (only owner). He used it from 50ies untill 90ies, when his eyes demanded a bigger dial which he could read also nights. Befor I give it to a watch maker, who helped me the last years, I want your help with decision making.
Firstly, I would to know more about the watch. The only info I got, is from internet and it is not so much to read. Can you tell me more about ref 2577?
Secondly, I would to know your opinion in topic how long I should go. The movement is still fantastic and I guess the necessary task is a ultasonic cleaning but more?I can’t decide what to do with the dial. I don’t want to destroy the watch and keep it as it is. But, what is the right way to go?
Best regards from Stockholm

There are very large numbers of 2577s in the world with a lot of variation. You will want an Omega specialist, especially one skilled at installing bushings, as some of the holes in that movement are likely worn oval. Very common.

A standard service that includes crystal and crown for water resistance would be a good idea. That crown is probably not original to the watch in any event. Talk with your watchmaker about hand-polishing the case. That will brighten it and take out some of the surface scratches and is safer than a buffing wheel. With any luck you can find a watchmaker that has an Omega parts account, too.

I'm sure you will be very happy with this watch once it has been serviced.

Yes, I think my son will love it because he is the one who will get it. He has also memories from childhood with grandfather and his watch (which had a gold plague chain).
My watchmaker has contacts for ordering parts privately. No problem.
