Need help with an omega watch

Hi

my Dad bought this watch in the 1970s and has decided to leave it to his grandson (my son) in his will. He’s now decided he wants him to have it now rather than wait. I know he’s had it thrown in a drawer or a long time so it necessarily stored the best it could be and he’s given me the box.

1 - firstly I need some links for it, Dad is tiny and my son not, can anyone recommend where I may find those. I’ve searched the forum to no avail.

2 - I can see one tiny area with tiny specs of green under the glass in one corner, I feel it’s had some moisture, how best should it be stored

3 - I realise it’s likely to be worth less than £400, some jewellers I’ve asked want £200-300 to service it and clean it - is that a good idea? I take my 2012 constellation for service but it’s worth a lot more but this has never had anything like that.

advice really welcomed

thank you

I think it's well worth servicing as it's a nice heirloom piece for your son. £400 sounds steep to me though for a routine service and clean.

Unfortunately, the cost of a service is not related to the value of the watch, as you know. If the watch has sentimental value, and you want to use it, then there is no alternative to paying for a service. That's entirely your decision. I guess the main question is whether your son will actually wear it. If not, then there's no need to service it.

The bracelet links will not be easy to find and unfortunately the bracelet is integrated. Your best bet is probably to buy another one of these watches and scavenge some links. Or you could try a clasp extender if you only need a small amount of extra length.

If you haven't called Omega yet, do so. Many of these are discontinued but you might get lucky.

Definitely looks like it's had some moisture ingress going by the stains on the dial. As you're in the UK you might want to try watchguy.co.uk who charges less than £200 for a service of automatic watches (plus parts) and is used by a number of people here. I've been very happy to send him watches. He does have a bit of a waiting list but I doubt that's a big issue for you.

I'd have it serviced and enjoy a nice watch and family heirloom in good health (for the owner and the watch) for many years. If a service is affordable to you I wouldnt think about the watch monetary value as emotional value goes a long way. Just an opinion

That integrated bracelet is quite a common pattern. It was used on a number of models from it's launch with a 751 movement at Baselworld in 1969. Went on until the mid late seventies on a number of different models. So keep looking you will find some links for it.
