hey guys I need some help, trying to identify this watch. This watch belonged to my Grandfather who has since passed. I just want to get the yaer and model number. I am a little worried about opening it, I don't want to mess anything up. Is this a winding watch and do I wind it back and forth or just one way? Any help you guys can give me would be great.

Here are a bunch of pictures:

Yep, a reference 2627 with either a bumper caliber 353 or 355 inside. Could be made in any year from 1950 to 1955-ish.

Nice heirloom! 馃憤

You're probably going to want to get that serviced if you intend to wear it, would be a nice daily wear piece.

thanks guys, I think I need a new band for it then get it all cleaned up. I was happy about how nice it looked inside, looked brand new. What are watches like these worth? Don't know if I want to wear to work or not.

I'd say cleaned up and serviced it'd be worth around maybe 450-550. The original black dial is nice, and it makes the watch uncommon!

the black face is uncommon? Man I am totally ignorant about this, sorry. this has actually been in a drawer for about 10 years.

Well, it's kind of uncommon to see them original and untouched like yours. Many of them have been repainted or redialed over the years due to deterioration, but yours is in good condition. Here's mine!

Mine's original but it's been a little overpolished. I would leave it alone, but if you want a polish I would get a very light polish.

Maybe it's just me, but to me it looks like the bezel is missing? Does anyone else see it or is it just my eyes? 馃槙

Not sure about that, you would probably need a donor case or something. A watchmaker might have a spare case or a watch bought for parts that he could take the bezel off of though.
