Need help in valuing a watch I am considering for purchase

That's a fair point, I do think I still owe it to the seller to carry out the transaction should I win the bid, even so, I understand that it isn't valuable as a vintage but perhaps I can eventually pass it on as a gift to another that wishes to enter the hobby (like my father). That's perfect as my budget is indeed around 500-600 USD for a Seamaster (preferably an automatic). I'm actually earning my salary in AUD so it's fairly expensive for me right now. But for the new future, I definitely see it as a possibility!
So if you’re on a limited budget, why spend 300 and then another 600? Wouldn’t you rather keep the ressources available for something nice like this? And then you’ll have some funds left over for a nicer gift even.

There will be more of those.

That looks amazing, hopefully I would get a chance to find something like that. The reason why I don't really want to renege on the bid is because it's in it's last hours, if I do happen to get it, I wouldn't mind, a lesson well learnt for sure. But if someone happens to snipe the bid, then all for the better I suppose. Thank you for the comment thought. I really appreciate it.

I think $300 is already top dollar given the dial condition. If you love it, wait until the last minute and try to snipe it for $350. But recognize that from a collector's perspective, it's pretty much money down the drain.

You can actually find some nice vintage watches for $300, but a decent Omega will generally cost a bit more since they are very popular. You should be prepared to spend at least $500 if you are buying a watch that is broadly marketed on the internet. Deals can be had at estate sales, thrift stores, etc. But you really have to hunt.

I see, I'm hoping to leave the bid at $300 and see if I get it which will be a lesson well learnt, hopefully, I gain more experience in assessing prices of vintage Omegas in the future!

The word "revisiert" as "revised" can mean a lot, depending of the semantic of the seller. IMO it should mean disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, worn parts replaced. But sneaky sellers may use it also when the watchmaker only had a look at the movement to see if there was an obvious larger fault/issue with the movement. So caveat when you read this term. I would always ask detailed question about the work done on the watch or movement.
I'm very much obliged for your help, as are we all, vielen dank. To Haxy, sorry for interrupting, good luck in your watch journey. You have started it with advice from some of the best there are! 👍

Oh so sorta good news everyone! I have been outbid for the watch and it sold for 353 USD. I guess I lucked out a bit on this one.

Here’s a pretty decent Seamaster Automatic for sale.

Thank you for that recommendation, the black dial Seamaster is gorgeous! The white dial calendar is a little steep for my budget but at a conversion from 500 Euros to around 800 AUD, I am so tempted. I might actually bite the bullet on this one. Have you had experience buying from this seller before?

Don't forget that you will need to pay GST 10% + Import charges, + Freight to Australia, which will add up tp somewhere between 20 and 30% in total. Unless you are offshore and able to get it where you are.

I never bought anything from her but I’ve had a number of nice discussions with her, she’s clearly someone passionate who’s selling nice watches at what we call « mate’s price », ie she’s trying to recoup her costs at reasonable prices and not seeking profit. I would personaliy buy from her with full confidence.
If that’s the watch you have in mind, it’s a fair price and a nice watch, bearing in mind indeed you may face extra costs.
Maybe you can contact her and see where that takes you?

I can vouch for her! For the €500 you get a serviced watch. And when she writes „serviced“ it is a proper service.

I'm going to contact her soon, I decided to sleep on it to not make an impulse buy but I really am in love with the watch. Thank you for your recommendation Syrte and for your advice, LuckyLes and iamvr. You have all been very helpful. Is there any guides on where I can find out more about servicing costs and how frequently one should service? As my budget is tight and being a newbie, I want to take everything into account!

Thank you all once again!

If you win it for $300 and decided to resell I don't believe you will lose much money. If you do i doubt it would be less than $50 and let's face it you could lose that on any watch you buy.

For Servicing costs in Australia maybe @STANDY @JimInOz or others could tell you.
With modern synthetic oils a service is usually said to last for 5 to 7 years. Since this one has just been done you’re good to go for a good while, and that’s a pretty big deal considering you can trust the seller.
