    Hi all,

I would like to ask your expert opinion on this S 105.003 - 64 Omega Speedmaster.

The chrono hand is not original but at least it has matching patina. The number on the calibre is 22XXXX which is correct for 105.003-64. The dial and the bezel (both original) looks pleasing to me though they might not be in the best shape. The pushers are original I believe. What do you guys think? Is the casing over-polished? The downside is there is engraving on it, but I would like to change it to the exhibition case back anyway ( I'll probably polish the engraving away. I plan to wear it myself as this is the vintage watch that Ive always wanted). The bracelet is in quite poor condition but I plan to change to a leather strap.

The seller said this just had a complete overhaul --- but no service papers back that up. The seller has a full 5 star rating (more than 300 previous transactions). Seller offered 14 day return. No box and no papers.

I'm generally risk-averse and I don't mind paying a slight premium for safe transaction (no bank wire transfer) and reputable seller. Is USD $7,500 reasonable for this watch? Please let me know any concerns /comments you guys have about this watch.

    Thanks so much!

I'm in no way an expert, but I think the price is on the high side for this watch. Replacement chrono hand and crown, muddied lume, so so bezel insert, engraving on case back. No documentation of service so that's of no value.

    +1 to everything you said.

Muddied' lume is a good descriptor. The bezel I kinda like in a 'rugged' way, though. Assume an expensive service since there's no documentation. That's a high price by a big margin for this one...

Yes I was thinking the same. The stretch on the clasp as well. Where was it from?? Chrono resets a hair to the left of 12, too.

I'm sure that caseback has been on here before, with a 105.002.

Have you seen the movement and inside the back?

Thanks for your thoughts guys -
The item was on eBay - I still have the option to proceed with the purchase or not though.

How much do you think is a "fair value" of this watch?

How overpriced is it? Overall do you think its worth buying at the "right" price or better to wait?

Now I am not always right, but in this case I believe this is a poor, "running" watch priced at "good" on the chart:
    http://speedmaster101.com/price-chart-2/
Every part on this watch is poor. Several better examples have sold recently for around the asking of this one. The problem is each part of this watch is terrible. If broken up, the parts would not fetch sky high prices - I would suggest they wouldn't get much at all.

The case band looks ok. The dial is correct, but not one I would choose to own as the plots are so "dirty".

    Imagine:
A top bezel sold recently for $1700, and a poor one $260
A top dial sold for $3000, a poor one for $650
An "ok" case back sold for (from memory) $400

Here is a nice example bought last year for a little less

Once again I'd be more inclined to a far nicer example of a less expensive reference unless you must have straight lugs.

I really love the straight lugs so I'm searching for CK 2998, 105.002 or 105.003. I cannot afford a CK2915.

A bit of advice, when dealing with these high value speedmasters....

Its ALL ABOUT THE DIAL !

Some will say its the case, some will say CONDTION CONDITION CONDITION, but frankly, I want to own a watch, not to endlessly critisise. In a way, that's easy. The trick is to buy a used watch that is attractive and valuable, in spite of any issues it has. That takes serious skill.

To own a straight lug, we have to buy one with problems.

For me, I don't want the dial to have the problems.

If you can live with the dial id say it's a $5k watch at the most.

I'd pass and hunt down a better example.
