Hello, i am looking at a vintage zenith 18k rosegold watch with 133.8 movement my concern is if the dial is original to the watch or is it a redial. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Here are some pictures.
Sorry for the screen shots guys but for whatever reason the website wont let me download pictures to my phone.
The closealst dial wise i could find was this. http://www.vintage-watches-collection.com/watch/zenith/zenith-steel-hand-wound-1968/ But again im not sure if the watch i have and the closest one i could find are the same. Here is another one on ebay but pics are horrible https://m.ebay.com/itm/ZENITH-BUMPE...260686?hash=item33b4a84cce:g:00QAAOSwqYBWn~4uPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Im wondering if it is a redial is it worth keeping, or get my money back. Seller is saying dial is original. Or changing the dial to the original is a option, does anyone know or recommend where i may get one?
Hmm interesting i am wondering if zenith manufactered a watch like yours but in 18k rose gold and no numbers on the dial. And i know the following is a matter of preference, but would you keep the watch i have the way it is, ive seen much worse redials on this forum. Much appreciate your help.
That one is from the Zenith book and I think it’s a 40T. I’d have to look again. IMO it’s a redial. The Z is crooked, the bottom of the E is much longer than it should be and the O looks bigger than other letters. It’s a really nice watch and the 133 is a Chronometer grade movement but it would bother me to look at the printing which is sloppy. I’d return it and get a better example. Alternatively you could ask on the other internet forum. There’s a couple guys there who really know their stuff
Well thanks for the help, you have been really helpful when it arrives ill have to ship it back. Goes to show you how cautious you have to be especially online auctions. Which forum are you referring to? Watchuseek?
Yes. Zenith forum. I didn’t know if they frown upon mentioning other sites. Harmut or sempervivens will probably agree on the redial. Let me know what they say
Maybe post this where it belongs...on the Zenith Watches Forum https://omegaforums.net/forums/zenith-watches.33/
Thanks i appreciate it. Please add the link to this one if it is allowed if not dont worry about it. Thanks i really appreciate all your help and effort. Now its just a matter of debating if i want it, like you pointed out the 133.8 movement iz nice and from what i could find there are not a tonnof them out there but the 133 movement as i understand is more desirable. I could be wrong though.
Also a little off topic but check out this site he has a pretty extensive movement database, i figure it would come in handy for someone who is authenticating a piece. http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft
So after taking both pictures of both watches and angling them the best i could here is the result of superimposing the images. You can see the original dial is below and the redial is on top you can tell by the golden 12hour marker, it does appear the fonts match just the automatic wording could have been stretched out a little more and the font itself could have slanted a little more. What do you guys thinks as in terms of quality of redial? Not this picture obviously.
