Hi Arvidrattlaas

I'm not an expert here so I won't pretend to give you any advice about the watch itself, but if I were you I would use the Speedmaster101 site to appraise the watch yourself as much as you possibly can. Then I would come back and share what you like about it, what you don't, what questions about it you're able to answer yourself and what questions you have but need further input on. If you do that, then I think you'll get more engagement and openness from the members in assisting you. Otherwise, if you don't from their perspective It might just seem as though you're here as a transient member just after a quick appraisal and then woosh off you go!

All the best

Nathan

Yeah. Thanks guys. I totally understand.

So.. about the 145.022 69 ST i posted 10 pictures of on Wednesday. I have been doing some reading and correct me if I'm wrong:

-Correct bezel from the late part of 1970. Not as valuable as the DON, but a curiosity, and easy to place in a timeline. Pretty worn, but that's OK.
-Serial number starts with 30996XXX, so that places it within 70/71.
-Pre moon case back. Which if I understand correctly wasn't made after 1969, but is considered legit for this transitional reference. (?)
Digression: What defines a "pre moon speedmaster"? Only the case back, or that the whole watch is produced before the moon landing - which in that case makes this watch what? (Since the case back is pre moon and the rest is from 1970).
-1035 bracelet. Not correct for this reference. This bracelet is older. But it is a relatively sought after bracelet which can be sold. (Value 800 USD?)
-I like the dial and the patina very much. So that's a plus.
-No box or papers, but one can not really expect that at this price.
-The case in general looks OK from the pictures.
-Price: I'm going to offer him 4700 USD, and I won't go higher than 5300 USD.

Am I misunderstanding something? Is this a franken or do I understand the rules of the transitional period correctly? Any comments on the price?

Regards

Pre moon means it does not have the first watch worn on the moon caseback.

Transitional means it has an AML or applied metal logo, this was in cal 321 speed masters and very early cal 861 in 69. So 861 with AML = transitional.

The watch you posted is a 220 bezel an uncommon misprint. Which at this point is not adding to the price of the watch.

Price seems good and a bit low if it has proof of recent service.

I'd ask 2 things, natural light shot of the dial and proof of service.

So pre moon only refers to the case back, not the watch as a whole?

Is this combination of pre moon case back and serial 30996XXX problematic, or is it considered correct?

If you know of what I mean. My English isn't exactly immaculate.

No not a problem at all. It's correct and exactly right.

I can't tell if it's a step dial from the pictures. Make sure it is before you buy it.

I think a step is visible in the first picture.

Thanks. I've made a deal now with the seller and we coincidentally live in the same city. I'll get to see the watch on Monday before I pay him. I'll definitely check out the dial and case to verify that everything is as stated in the ad. He will also give me the receipt for the recent (last week actually) full service and new hesalite + pushers.

Thanks for the help guys. And I apologize for being a bit short and needy initially.

I'll post pictures here when (if) I get the watch.

OK. So I finally received the watch today. Here it is:

Does anyone know where I can buy a transparent plastic patch to protect the hippocampus? I'm also gonna buy a nice brown vintage style leather strap.

Just recieved a pleasant letter from Bienne. (By the way: I live in Oslo, Norway and bought this watch from a local guy who allegedly bought it from a friend of his uncle.) Pictures:
