Hello, I am a total newbie and would like to request you guys’ help with identifying what’s legit and what’s not with this watch along with ball park figures. Seller is really pleasant and did ask me to look for second opinions on the watch. Appreciate the help, and thank you in advance. Photos of movement were taken from seller’s page.

Looks legit at first glance. Aftermarket bracelet obviously and the day change apparently needs an adjustment at the least. Biggest issue to me is the dial condition. It’s not horrible, but that spotting is significant enough to affect the value, and the watch is a bit tired overall.
In general, gold cap Seamasters seem to sell at a similar level as SS. if you share more information we might be able to advise you better with respect to price. Who is selling it? Where are you located? Etc.

Take your time, lots to choose from, do your homework. Vintage is not as simple as asking is this or that ok.
I started doing my homework and in the end I decided purchasing new was better for me. It may not be the case for you.

Hey Dan S, thank you for the comment. I’m located in Singapore and the seller is a local collector. Are there any other specific information that might help? I’m honestly unsure of what other information is relevant, apologies.

Hey Omega D, thank you for the comment. What you just said definitely makes sense. Just that I do like this watch but at the same time, liking does not justify overpaying etc. I would say i have read up a fair bit, just that I’m not a fair judge of my own capabilities.

I don’t know what prices are like in Singapore unfortunately. Given the condition, and obvious need for servicing, I personally would be looking at about $500 USD. What is the asking price?

Asking price is double of what you gave. Ahh, I see, so pricing is also generally affected by the location? Regarding servicing, was told it was serviced around 6 months back with gaskets changed etc. at a watch shop.

$500 US is c.£400 and I think it would struggle to meet that in an open auction. Sure a dealer will ask double.

For double the price I’d want a mint dial and added value (eg a recent service with documented proof, not just someone saying it was serviced)

you should ask for the history of the watch and find out if it has been serviced.
the alignment of the date shows that this maintenance has not been done for a very long time.
besides the seal seems very tired.
the service costs $350-400 if there are no parts to change. it's always good to put in the balance when negotiating the price.

all seems correct.
I agree with the price of $500, no more.

Hello Azveld, thank you for the comment. Asking is $1000. Noted on estimated servicing cost, will keep that in consideration.

Hello Davidt, thank you for the comment. Noted on the documented proof requirement. But based on your comment, even with that present it will not fetch a grand regardless.

I really doubt that this watch was serviced 6 months ago, and the asking price is unreasonable IMO.

I'm afraid you can't get a reasonable price for this watch, the seller is too greedy.
Unless you have a real crush and are ready to put a lot of money into this purchase, I advise you to wait for another to come to you. this one is much too expensive and it is not a rare model.

There must have been some pics posted so I assume you deleted them. Why? This thread might help educated someone else in your position but it's useless without pics.

Totally inappropriate and discourteous to alter the thread OP.
