I have bought Speedmasters, via the internet, from Jade Road and have been happy with the quality of their watches. I believe the watches are serviced and they do warranty them for a year but I haven't found it necessary to avail myself of the warranty. Their watches are in better condition than another shop, Sweet Road.

That being said, at the present time there are few vintage Speedmasters available in Japan, at least on the internet. If the import customs, and the low value of the Yen, are manageable, why not buy an ebay, chrono24 or forum watch (with the right of return). There are many many more pieces to choose from outside of Japan.

Good advice. I'll have a look around there as well. Would you think eBay and Chrono24 are probably the best sources?

Sure. This forum too. In this day and age, you can get a watch from nearly anywhere in the world in a week. I've bought watches from numerous countries. The most important thing is to get very good pictures, document all agreements and questions. Use Ebay or a Paypal when ever possible. They both stand by the buyer (even pissing off many sellers) and will keep you from getting ripped off. But you must follow their rules. Never wire funds to anyone but a respected store or known and respected seller

One more word of advice. Do Not do any ebay business with any low rated sellers from Lima Peru. These jerks have been trolling around ebay for months offering cheap Speedmasters. They are scammers.

Looks to be in great shape (too good???) but very expensive.

I'm the wrong person to value a 105.012-66 because it's uniqueness is in the case, which for that year, 1966, was made differently with more facets and is highly regarded by many in this forum IF AND ONLY IF it has not been polished. I'm not sure if this watch has not been polished. Others will.

Honestly, I am new at this and do not, yet, see the overall evil in a well polished watch. To others this is heresy. That being said, I will admit that I recently purchased the 105.012-66 on ebay which is in good shape EXCEPT it was polished. The pushers are also wrong. Another $125 to invest. The hands need a little work too. No one else was interested. The price $3900. Is it polished. Yes. Does it sing to me. Yes. And that's all that matters.

I suspect that Speedy to be owned by our fellow member Stefan. Maybe there´s a OF discount to be negotiated? 😀
