We have more activity in the back yard now. This is a tiny new bunny (would fit in the palm of your hand easily) that we first saw a few days ago, and he/she has been hanging around quite a bit, hopefully evading the larger birds and the cats that stupid people let roam around...

We had a few Turkey Vultures stop by for a rest:

"This is my good side..."

And a Chipmunk gnawing away on a chicken bone on the deck:

Although people think of them as eating nuts only, they are omnivores, and do eat meat. I think this one was using the bone to keep his ever growing front teeth in check, but clearly it was tasty too:

So, I posted this story back in February...

So winter can be interesting - you tend to get a different view of wildlife than you do in summer. For example one night a while ago, we heard something banging on the back deck. There was obviously some sort of creature out there, so we investigated - didn't get a photo but looking out the bedroom door to the deck, there was an Opossum with a dead squirrel - the squirrel was frozen solid as it was very cold, and the banging was the opossum knocking it around as it was finding a spot under out patio furniture to presumably have a snack...

We were doing some spring clean-up and spreading topsoil in low spots around the property, and my wife raked up some debris in the garden around the back deck, right where this opossum was taking that poor frozen squirrel to much on. She found what's left of that poor squirrel...

And that's no tall tale/tail...😉

The first horny toad of the year, actually he was the second I spotted but I didn't have my phone on me when I spotted the first one an hour or so earlier.

Hi.
Took a photo of this Elephant Hawk Moth Caterpillar I came across whilst gardening.
For size comparison it's standing on the wife's hand!
Joe.

My favourite part of our garden, I tend to leave it wild to help protect our resident bird population as we have some sparrow hawks around.
To the right you may notice the start of our hawthorn hedge which extends to around four metres in length and provides a wonderful nesting area for sparrows etc.
I once counted seven sparrows in the bird bath and needless to say by the time they were finished I had to clean it it out and top up the water 😀

At my usual break trail where I just clear my brain as I run around during the day had a visitor. I thought it best not to visit the trails as he was looking for food I’m not sure if he was full enough that I would be ruled out as a snack. You would think these beasts would be clumsy but I’ve seen them navigate some trick areas with ease I do not kid myself that I could outrun one, I’d try of course.

A duck couple flew into our swimming pool, paddled around a while, got out and preened their feathers on the deck, curled their heads in and went to sleep. They were gone in the morning.
