Is anyone here to determine this beetle? (Provence)
lenght incl. the middle antenna 😁 : 1,5 cm

not going to tell you to download anything but google lens can identify almost all insects and animals. It’s not perfect but pretty cool. I really don’t like downloading google things as google makes me paranoid but my wife worked on it when she was interning so hearing about the algorithm was kinda cool. It can track packages as well. I believe it’s preinstalled on the google pixel not sure about other phones.

Edit: took a picture of a dinner I ordered and it gave me the recipe. Didn’t try it yet but cool

I hope Google comes up trumps….There are currently around 97,000 known species of weevil around the world… more than we can match. Rice weevils caused us some trouble a while back/ we all eat a few I guess.

Well with adding AI to it in the next few years it may know at least 96,000 weevils. Didn’t weevils used to plague your majesties fleet back in the days when England ruled the seas and exploring and the sailors would often have weevils in their food?

From what I read with most humans locked away animals felt safer traveling. And they can cover some ground. Moose are amazing beasts. They will total a car in an accident. I see more when I travel further north and it’s almost comical how big they get.

That's kind of what I figured in terms of confidence exploring human-centric habitat rather than actual numbers going up.. There was some great footage during lockdown
towns being taken over by goats and the like..

I understand that Moose can also potentially be quite violent, territorial males specifically, coupled with their size I'd imagine is a formidable Encounter😲

I was in Maine (usa) I did have guns with me but strictly for target shooting I gave up hunting. I was heading down to a target sight and saw too drunk guys pulled over out of their truck and they were getting way to close to a moose. You could tell the moose was annoyed I pulled over and told the guys get back in their truck they were messing with something that could kill them.

I then realized they were both drunk and my warning gave them more bravado. I did put a round in my rifle but I did not want to shoot this beautiful beast because of two drunk idiots plus it’s a major deal if you take down a moose, like sit in jail big deal. It has to be done right. Sure enough the moose charged one of the drunk guys and tossed him like a rag doll. I was relieved the moose kept going and Mr drunk guy was lucky he got hit mainly with the moose shoulder. He was lucky he was alive and moving. I just made sure everyone was ok. It was a full grown male moose so could have been 1,600lbs. I don’t know how the guy got up and walked.

Must have been the booze but I bet he felt it the next day.

While I've learned the sad news the sycamore tree near Hadrian's wall has been cut, I just photographed this great white Heron

This Coopers Hawk was making a snack out of some small animal near our front bush yesterday...looked like maybe a mouse or vole of some kind...

I figured I’d pop in a pic or two of mine. I got the opportunity to teach a travel course in Ecuador, including the Galápagos Islands. Here is one of my favorite shots. It hangs on my wall in my office. Marine Iguana.

Edit: I’ve tried to post it multiple times. Pic never shows up. Unsure as to why.

I was caught in traffic today behind a slow poke that kept swerving from one lane to the other.

Phenomenal pics

There are a pair of them down on the shore, and they are well used to people, so I was able to walk within ten feet of them, albeit, slowly.

That's incredible.. I've never actually seen a moose in the flesh, I would love them to still be roaming the British countryside..
The biggest we get is a dominant male red deer.. They also become territorial and can cause serious injury, but they are magnificent; you can see them roaming freely in some places in London and they will charge if you don't respect their space.

One of the prettiest final approaches in the USA, especially on a clear day.

These two turkeys followed me to the hole 12 tee pad at the disc golf course today. I was surprised they didn’t care much about me. Beautiful day today. Low 80s and not a cloud in the sky in October.
