Damn I know there are a number of pilots here and what not but I used to parachute recreationally, I think my highest jump was 16,500 feet. I remember how it always used to blow my mind looking out the perfectly good plane before the jump, it really was almost too much for my brain to process, I can’t imagine what was going through those guys minds.
Guys and gals. Valentina Tereshkova, first female in space, parachuted out of her capsule from 20,000 feet. That's just how they landed back to Earth. Respect.
In fact all one-person Vostok missions (Gagarin…) ended like that, while the FAI stipulated that a spacefarer should land with his/her capsule
They had the right stuff for certain. Another story about Tereshkova. When Gagarin got on the bus to take him to the launch he had reportedly urinated on the wheel. So Tereshkova did the same thing on her bus trip. Can't picture that but she was a woman among men and WAY ahead of America.
I just found these videos. I love old videos that have been updated. Particularly those from the turn of last century. I might see if I can start a thread with them.
