I could just add that another way Helvetia has been brought back is by a certain eBay seller who sells copies, and I use the term loosely, of military watches.

They have a copy of the Helvetia German army DH watch. I was quite impressed at how good a copy of the dial it was originally then looked closer and realised why; what they have done is print pictures of original vintage dials and case backs onto their dials and case backs so of course they look the same from a distance.

On looking closer I realised it wasn't just a picture of an original dial, I realised it was a picture of my dial from my watch that they have pinched from my site!

Have a look at the 1 in particular. I managed to find the original case back they copied online though it isn't mine.

I'll have to ask for a cut of the millions they are making!!

I’m surprised that Minerva (subsumed by Montblanc) has not yet been mentioned.

Montblanc actually uses the Minerva name on some of their movements. Which I've always enjoyed.

I can'y say that I miss Pontiac, though the first car that I ever owned was a Pontiac Catalina, given to me by my grandfather.

The watch company's best known model was the oddly named Hydraulica.

How about we bring one of these names back ourselves? If the company is defunct the copyrights have probably expired. We could create our very own brand? I’m sure it’s easy...

It is the trail of disappointment. Some things that are dead should stay dead.

Not necessarily - as long as it's done right, then it's fine - Breitling, Bell & Ross, Blancpain, Ball, etc are all formerly dead watch brands brought back to a decent life. But taking a former well regarded product name and making it a zombie brand product is terrible - it's like trying to profit off a corpse. Happens way too frequently - look at Nakamichi or Zenith, along with the many previously mentioned watch brands that now suck

Wyler

Advertised as highly robust against shock & water intrusion (not sure how much better they really were than any of the competition...).

nice color dial. throw in the like color sweater and the owl and the background and it's a real hoot.

Also, Excelsior Park has not been revived, although they were mainly supplying movements to other companies.

Someone is working on it though, same guy who recently relaunched Nivada, I believe:
