Hi, Hello everyone, this is my first post on this forum and I hope to follow the rules with my questions. I recently bought an omega with a gold plated bezel with a Geneve inscription, but with a stainless steel seamaster case. should not the box be gold plated too? the box indicates 166002. 565 movement and the serial number starts with 253 ... Thank you for informing me, Inside the back case
Are you talking about the stainless steel caseback (box)? Fond acier inoxydable translates to stainless steel back. Everything looks okay for a gold filled watch I think; steel backs are normal.
Oh I see. The dial, case, hands, movement look all original to that reference number (doing a quick google search). The crown looks replaced thats all.
It's a normal combination. The text inside the caseback: "Carrure - Lunette Plaque Or (?) 60 microns" tells you that the case is gold plated to a thickness of 60µ, and as @apsm100 mentioned, you have a stainless steel bottom .
And on a seamaster cover ? Haven't the seamaster a special serial ref ? One more time, Thks a lot for all your answers, .. !
I mean, I'm surprised to see a geneva with a cover seamaster. so, what kind of watch is this? a geneva or a seamaster? an ignorant omega lover ..
Caseback is normal for a plated Omega, and your watch is from 1967. It’s weird that is has both. Maybe Omega used some of the last Geneva Dials they had around, before they weren’t allowed to use them. Actually makes no sense since production stopped in 1979
There are many many examples of Genève dials in Seamaster cases, and also many examples of dials marked "Seamaster Genève". It's not unusual and a couple of nights doing some research on the internet, or even perusing old Omega brochures and the master reference "A Journey Through Time" will be very informative.
