Here is my 18 carat gold 1954 Geneve, bought in Switzerland in the mid-50s by my dad. He gave it to me as he no longer wears it. I think it's beautiful.

Very nice... The dial on mine is very faded. The crosshairs have all but disappeared

I wonder what has made the dial fade so much. Moisture? Someone cleaned it? Material used for this particular dial?

It still looks great by the way!

Thanks. The dial have been badly cleaned at son point because there are quite a few fine scratches on it. I don't know what the dial is made of.

The word "patina" is used a lot on this MB in reference to a dial that is showing its age. In collector car circles, the term "trailer queen" is used a lot. Your watch is no trailer queen! It was bought to be worn, and worn it was! No shame in that! There are polarizing views as to dials that have patina, and dials that have been refinished. Enjoy your watch for what it is.

You're right... I love it as it is. My dad wore it every day for 50 years and it's showing its age. My local watchmaker suggested I get the dial restored. I said no way!
