Hi there! I've pulled the trigger on a 98 Speedmaster Pro and I expect it to be delivered today! As you can imagine, I'm excited and looking very much forward to reading and posting here. I'll post a picture on arrival.
1. Prepare a big thermos of hot coffee/tea/Scotch. 2. Swallow a dozen No-Doze tabs. 3. Grab a sleeping bag to keep warm. 4. Wait at the foot of your letterbox. 2. Be prepared to rugby tackle any courier/postie who tries to do a "not at home - left card" trick. 3. Post picks when you have wrestled it from the packaging.
Hey, we're excited for you. I'm just preparing Jim's list in anticipation too. Just one thing...what if it comes tomorrow? What then. I've one of the same age, been with me through everything, the hi and lows- to be honest, it's my No. 1 Watch above everything I own. When yours comes look after it, wear it as much as you possibly can and above all else enjoy it! All the best Nathan
Ok how many zoomed in or checked the first dial picture immediately to look for the T's??? Great piece!
Only question for you all... do you know anyone with a large wrist that wears a speedy? I know there's lots of small wrist neurosis, but I'm the opposite I think it's got great presence, but is it too small for me?
Looks perfect. I'm 7.5 inch around the wrist, and own a 45.5 that pushes size just a bit, but love my 42's and love a 36mm I own.
Haha, it's the first thing I always do. I forgot that 98 I was the last of the Tritium, I did a double take and the penny dropped!
Congratulations! My first day with my Speedy wasn't too long ago and it was crazy exciting! The watch wears very well on your wrist. If you want to maximize how it appears on your wrist, stick with the bracelet. The endlinks extend past he lugs, which has the effect of making the watch appear longer from lug to lug. Enjoy and wear it in good health.
I guess I'll need a couple additional links... it's currently only long enough for a 7.5 inch wrist, and my wrist is 8 inches. Any clues about how many additional I'd need for a comfortable fit?
One option: Switch out the original clasp with the Seamaster 300MC's extendable clasp. I did it with my Speedy and it added enough length that I had to take two additional links out. The bonus is the clasp is awesome and lets you micro-adjust on the fly for days when your wrist expands from humidity or whatever. It looks like this:
Part number is STZ001159 for the clasp. I'm not sure what the part number is for the compatible endlinks, which you will require. I bought them from another collector and don't have the record of the endlinks part number.
