Nearly a year of OF membership, almost 1000 posts, and here are the fruits of my obsessions. Thanks to all who have helped me along the way.

It took 6 months of constant searching to finally locate and acquire a Base 1000 bezel to complete my Speedmaster 2998-1. Tropical is an overused term but this dial is truly chocolate. Coupled with recently acquired 7077 bracelet with all 5 working double spring links, it is virtually complete. All that's left is to install an original style crown, clean it up a bit, and it's finished. The 2998-2 needs a retro crown as well. A lollipop chrono hand would be nice for the 2998-2 but the straight chrono hands are correct the way they are.

2998-2, at the top, has a transitional 7077 bracelet with single springy links. 2998-1 has original style 7077 bracelet with 5 double links which all function. Both bracelets have the older style, single notch, #6 end links. I believe this bracelet setup is correct, as perhaps was original, for both watches.

What a pair!

As for correct crown, I have a Naiad "mercedes" marked crown. If the right diameter I suppose it would be period correct for my 2998-3. Diameter is 6.3mm height 3mm. May be a little small for Speedy

 

According to MWO, the Mercedes crowns found on early Speedies were 24 teeth, diameter 6.75mm and height of 3.8mm. I'll be installing the type A1 "flat feet" crown, 24 teeth, diameter 6.75mm, height 3.8mm.

Absolutely fantastic. Congratulations on these (almost) twins. I am amazed that you were able to source a base 1000 bezel.... they seem to be quite expensive nowadays....

...when I read that you also have 105.002 Twins I wonder what else is in your collection...
