My Speedmaster Racing Straps

A member sent me a PM inquiring about a strap on my Speedmaster Racing. I thought others here might like to see these pics as well.
Here's a group shot showing the current strap--a Genteel Handmade leather racing, and three Omega straps and the Ebay $29.95 bargain strap:


While the Ebay bargain and Genteel Handmade appear very similar, there is no comparison in the quality. While the Ebay version is of good quality, it can't hold a candle to the Genteel, which I believe is even better than the Omega straps.

It's good to have choices. Some days I like the NATO, some days I like the original grey alligator, but most days I like the Genteel Handmade.

Genteel price and link pls. Just what I’m looking for. Color? What is the standard length. Edit: found the site

ebay version come with an option to install an omega clasp?

Also, if that’s the new golden honey OEM strap, how does this differ from the Barenia? This has been on my cart for weeks 😀

The Genteel strap color is Brown Barenia, you can see it is slightly more red than the Honey Brown Omega, and it is the standard length from their sizing chart for a 6.75" wrist. I looked for the exact measurements on my receipt, but they weren't listed there. The 6 o'clock strap is shorter than the Omega straps by at least an inch or more. The tip of the strap barely reaches the hinge end of the Omega deployant hardware, whereas the Omega straps wraparound the side of my wrist. The Genteel seems to be a better fit to me now.

I suppose one could remove the standard buckle from the Ebay version and install an Omega deployant. In fact, I have a cloned Omega deployant clasp ($40 from Ebay) I could try that with as the narrow end of the Ebay strap is 17-18mm. I'll try it this weekend and let you know.

I tried to fit the deployant clasp to the $30 Ebay strap. I wouldn't recommend it for several reasons. In general, the Ebay strap is too thick to fit properly between the guides of the size selector post. In addition, the proportions of the strap lengths between a pin and buckle strap are different than one designed for the Omega deployant. For example, the 6 O'clock strap (the one with the sizing holes) on a pin and buckle is longer than a deployant designed strap, while the other strap is shorter. This results in an awkward placement of the visible portion of the clasp on the underside of the wrist.. It appears that straps designed for the deployant clasps are, in general, thinner than this particular Ebay strap which makes the total strap much thicker when the strap overlap is considered. Omega straps and clasps run about $500 ($250 each), but generally are worth it.
