eBay fees are getting too high, there used to be a maximum fee of 75 euros but now it's 10% or maximum fee of 250. Considering how automated the system is and the lack of eBay assistance it's way too high. I sold on eBay for years but now i prefer to sell on forums.

it sounds like you don't have experience on eBay, so not much in feedback, which will lower the eventual sale price.

Most people on here are good. Especially those who have a high post number. Don't go selling it Western Union to a guy who joined yesterday and has two posts.

Put in on the for sale forum,( if you can get dispensation to post without 200) at say 拢2500 and see what offer is most acceptable.....

This age of watch is a sleeper. While it's not valuable now, if you stick it away in a good environment, so it does not decay, I would say as it is now it will be very desireable in 10 years time.

Agreed. When I buy on ebay, I prefer buying from sellers with low feedback numbers as they typically go for less. Try to sell it here first, then you would only potentially have paypal fees to deal with. That said, almost every watch I sell on ebay goes for more than I would have asked.

Hi everyone, thanks a lot for the clear feedback! I 'll think I ll wait a bit to see if any of the people who reacted in PM are really interested, and if not, go for good daylight picture and try ebay, although the high fees do make me a bit reluctant to do so. How o you guys send these watches? Since this is a package that you don't want to get lost...

I got a speedy in the late 70's as a gift which had the entire inner circle of the case back covered with "Dykme Blue". It is used for marking metal during machining processes. It wore off on it's own after wearing it for a while.

Melanie, I'd suggest advertising here first as I guess it wont cost you, it looks like a nice piece and is likely to appeal to a lot of members. If you aren't offered what you want then you can try ebay but remember they charge. It looks very nice.

Buyer typically pays shipping. When I get something like this, I prefer Fed Ex and more than happy to pay for overnight.

Melanie:
I have been selling on E-Bay since 1998 and here is my advice to you.
List it on E-Bay for $3500 buy it now and accept offers. This way you decide which price to accept and which to make a counter offer to. You will also have the advantage of seeing the feedback of those making an offer. The E-Bay fees are not 10% up to $750 however if you sign up and open an E-Bay store which will cost you about $15 a month, your fee will only be $250 on a completed sale. If you are not in a hurry just list and if you do not get good bites you can relist. Listing fees are negligible. I believe as others here that the price should be around $3000. If you are patient you will get it. Be very careful who you accept a PayPal payment from!! You can state in your auction that you will accept a PayPal payment only from those with say 75 positive feedbacks. Those below your number must pay by bank wire. I just read on Rolex forum that a long time seller has been scammed by a buyer paying by PayPal.
Listing here is your other option and will save you fees you would pay on E-Bay.

Great advice. The 10% ebay fee is a killer unless you have a highly, highly desirable piece. Best luck to the OP with the sale. 3590's are often overlooked but are still great pieces.

Warranty card dated mid-1990, and the watch looks like a 3590.50 from that era, but the warranty card also has a strange number written in the "ref" portion - looks more like a serial number than a reference number, and the serial would be from a much earlier watch. (maybe somebody smarter than me can explain that). I assumed the blue areas on the caseback are old plastic easily removed, or just camera artifacts.

Melanie, the good news is that the watch is all original, very good condition, with box and papers. That's what buyers are looking for! Also good is that the dial/lume is nicely aged and the caseback is very clean. By any chance is there engraving on the side of the watch case? If so, that would indicate its a 20th anniversary Apollo XI limited edition. I'm assuming not since you did not show any pictures of the left side watch case, and thus it probably is not engraved. So, on the downside, this is not a particularly interesting Speedmaster in terms of date or reference number, its not a limited edition, its your standard Moonwatch (but still very nice and valuable), and it will need a service before someone starts wearing it everyday. I see this selling in the $2500 - $2900 range, can't really see this going over $3000, but you never know. If you had a value in mind, I'd say list it in the for sale section of this forum (with moderator approval since you are new here). Otherwise, I agree with others, Ebay with $1 starting price and no reserve.... have no doubt, this baby will sell at a very fair market value, if not a premium if two or more really want it. My guess would be around $2900 USD. you may even get a few offers in your inbox here on the forum, I would be interested, but I am already broke from buying too many watches 馃榿 Best of luck.

Not a Apollo 11 20th as that came in a wooden box.

Why not keep it? Since it is a family watch. I doubt the extra money will make that much difference to you. Just a thought all the best of luck.

Well, nobody wears it, so it has always more been a box in the attic, than a family watch. In a few years, we'll move to a smaller house without attic, so I'd rather sell it so someone who does enjoy it.

is that remnants of the plastic that would have been on the watch when new?

Not uncommon for it to be on the case back as this example shows...

This is why I take these photos when the watch comes in, so no one can claim I made that horrendous scratch!

Cheers, Al
