Hello All, I've been doing my research here, and need to thank all the experts from whom I soak up all available information. I've been searching for awhile and I found this 145.012 67 SP recently on the bay. It was listed with a serial number that didn't match, but after some research and photo magnification I suspected that there was an error on the serial number, and it was actually 26XXXXXX instead of the reported 20XXXXXX. I decided to take a bit of a punt, and as returns were accepted put in a bid and ended up winning the auction. Now I have two weeks to ensure that I did indeed make a good purchase.......a tiny bit scary, but I feel really good about it. It needs a great cleaning and service, and I guess we will see I'm looking for some opinions here on the serial. I've had variations, with people calling it a C which is impossible, a 0, which is way too early, and a 6, which most people also see. That would date it appropriately. Here's a link to the original ebay listing, with the ebay photos. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-Speedmaster-Professional-Vintage-321-Pre-Moon-Watch-145012-67-SP-Mens-/121749348387?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=GHt1HiD304sU2dEiKwDyVDszh3A%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=ncPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network I have been able to determine that the crystal and the rehaute are not original, probably replaced during a service, and the crown is not original. The lumen has come off the hour makers, but the dial is not damaged, although there is some lumen on the dial near the markers, and the hands appear to me to be original. The bracelet is period correct 1039 with 516 links, although it looks slightly damaged, and the bezel is the period correct DON90. I need to thank @Eric-Navi and @Archer for answering my questions. @Archer hope these pics give you some more insight? And here is my first attempt at my own photos View attachment 156774 Now cropped and sharpened to try and see the numerals the best, with the last few serials photoshopped out because of my wasted time with the Peruvians Look forward to comments...thanks!
I agree @Georgieboy58, but always nice to get confirmation [emoji106]. It's a piece that has definitely seen some wear, but I like that.
Hi S/N seems in the 26MM range, though seller stated repeatedly in answering questions on eBay its 20MM !!!! This pic seems to be 26MM To be sure what the Serial is you should use a loupe when you take another look. If it's 20 then something would be wrong
If the serial's ok that could be a nice watch with a good clean and full service. Judging by the dirt and grime that's accumulated there's a good chance that this watch hasn;t been messed with. It has a nice bezel and I'd also agree that the hands are original as they often age to a darker shade than the hour markers. Good catch. Do get it serviced though!
Under loupe it appears to be a 6 as well, definitely will get the full service and clean done. I had no idea it was so hard to read those little numbers......everyone always takes such great pictures! Thanks @JohnSteed and @David3449.
Beautiful watch! I can't help much on the watch (though to my untrained eye it looks genuine and correct) but your comment about taking "a bit of a punt" resonated with me. A couple of years ago I took a chance on an underbid-yet-desirable Heuer on the Bay. Slightly fuzzy photos, wasn't 100% sure about how genuine it was, but when it arrived it turned out I got lucky! Still wearing it today My point is, sometimes you just have to take that leap of faith... enjoy!
Good. Whew!!! Use a good local guy, not Omega, to service You're spot on about pics, it's an art which guys here on OF have great pics to show. Me, I use my iPhone for pics and if you slow down (easier said than done, in practice) you'll get some nice pics too It's usually a twist if the wrist to catch good lighting, depth and clarity. For me that's a work in progress
Awful watch. I shall relieve you from the burden of it. Send it to me, and I'll reimburse your outlays. . . . . Just kidding!! You nailed it, congrats. It will renovate really nice, if treated symphatetical.
Just thought I would update this thread as I just got this baby back from sympathetic spa service from @Archer and ready to rock and roll. Super pleased with the results......I think it worked out pretty well! Now to find the next one....
Beautiful watch. And I'm sure the price appreciation that has occured since you picked it up doesn't hurt anything either! What kind of band are you going to put it on?
